Title: RHS General Qualification
Post by: jammyd on April 16, 2004, 14:05:07
Hi all, I haven't been around for a while due to being far too busy at work  :(
I have signed up to do the RHS general qualification, as my plans for the future do not include moderating the BBCs messageboards, and horticulture is an area I'm really interested in.
Has anyone here done this exam? Any advice would be appreciated - it's been a few years since I've learnt anything formally!

ta,

I was thinking of doing it this autumn (far too busy gardening during the spring and summer).  Are you doing it as a correspondence course - if so, who with ? Or are you attending classes ?  How long will it take ? I'd be very interested to hear how you get on.  I did my degree by distance learning so a correspondence course appeals to me.

Hello both of you. I am doing the RHS general cert now, near the end of year 1. Really enjoying it, it takes two years. It is fine at the moment, but like anything with an exam at the end...I am sure it will be hard work revising!!  I am doing it by attending classes by the way.
Any Questions, fire away!!
Regards
Sally

Hello! I'm doing a correspondence course with the HCC (Horticultural Correspondence college) http://www.hccollege.co.uk/
You have up to 3 years, but as the exams are every March, I'm aiming for just under a year - although I might have to re-think that :)
I got my lessons last week and had a flick through (2 massive folders worth) - looks really interesting, but I'm a bit nervous!
I'll let you know how I go!  ;D

byee!

Havent done the RHS general but have been doing the advanced certificate which comes after it (bit more sciencey), having done a City and Guilds course similar to to the General previously.

I think you can do the General over one year, its just that many colleges spread it over 2 so it takes up less of peoples' time each week (ie as an evening rather than day release course).

The Advanced does take 2 years min, plus a third if you want (!!) to go further on to the Diploma.
