Title: Quick Question - Beans from inside Runner Beans....
Post by: OllieC on November 04, 2006, 18:44:18
I have a few from today's tidying up & have removed them from the pods..... do I just boil for 20 mins & serve? I seem to remember Tim mentioning this before.... or it could have been someone else...

Thanks in advance!

Ollie

I am growing runner beans purely for the shelled beans - preparation is as Tim says, thorough cooking is the only thing to be aware of, as these beans can harbour toxins which are removed by boiling.

Yum yum

Without wishing to hasten anyone's departure, or argue with Curry, I do believe that the 'scare' over red kidney beans has spread unnecessarily to - esp - runners. We have eaten raw runner seeds all our lives.

This does not mean don't cook them, but I would have thought that 'until tender' was a reasonable time?

E&OE!!

I've been known to shell some out and eat them raw when on the plot, and OH will eat small pods, seeds and all.... we haven't come to any harm...

I have found runner bean seeds particularly delcious, added to casseroles etc. I love them.
