Here we go again then. Its that point of the year that heralds those long dark evenings of winter. I find these soooooo depressing (not to mention boring).
I know there are arguments both ways but i do wish we didnt have to do it. I would much prefer my hour of daylight in the afternoon/evening rather than first thing in the morning. I could get so much more done that way, being an afternoon rather than a morning person.
I have to agree with you GC.
Boohoo! I also have a dislike for this time of year when we lose that vital hour in the evening. I'm fortunate enough to work flexitime so get to work about 9.30 - 10ish, so the extra hour in the morning does nothing for me!
;D
trouble is, now they've done it, we'll have to lose the hour in spring, that's the one that gets to me, having to get up an hour earlier :(
Don't I know the clocks have just changed...just had the pleasure of working a 13 hour night shift... :(
off to bed for the day! Night all!! ;D
Regards
Matt
I hope you get paid for the extra hour. It must make things a bit complicated.
I can understand why its done, to make the mornings lighter and safer for thoes going to work and school early. I had to get up early yesterday (well 7.00 is early for me) and it was really dark evan then, before the clocks went back. 1 month on ant you are talking still dark ay 8 - 8.30, even still a bit even at 9am. So maybe it is for the best.
Still its the changing that takes getting used to - in either direction. It tends to throw my body clock out for nearly a week afterwards. I apreciate british summer time all year around is perhaps a non starter, but would it really be so bad staying on grenwich mean time all year around?. Then noone would complain about the changes to daylight hours when the clocks changed. You'd have lighter mornings all year around, traded off against slightly shorter evenings in the summer.
There was one year in the 1970's when we stayed on summer time over the winter, and there was an outcry about kids having to go to school in the dark.
Yes, I remember that well. I was a student in Newcastle and it was horrible - like going to work in the dark.
Funny we were just talking about that before I looked at this!
Even though I gave the pest (sorry dog) a talking to last night she still got me out of bed at 6.30am which then became 5.30am. She is now snoring so her body clock is still on yesterdays time.

I know what you mean Lorna, no one tells the animals that time is different!
:(
I too remember the time in the early 70's ( could have been 1970) when we did not change the clocks. it was dark at 9am some mornings. Very bad for the children going to school. There were lots of accidents. Kids finish school around :) 3 -3.30pm so it is still light for them at that time. I know lots of people think it is silly to change but in reality, it is far better to continue altering the clocks. It is a bit of a pain, especially with the chiming ones.

My mother always brings this experiment with the clocks up nearly every year when i start complaining about the clocks going back or suggesting they didnt change. I am not suggesting we have 'double summer time' again. I'd just prefer it if the clocks didnt change. Either from BST or GMT it doesnt matter.
It's causign me no end of grief as by the time I leave work it's dark and no allotment time is possible. I'm now trying to catch up on all the work in a single day on the weekend! Thank God Mum's coming down to help me out whil I'm at work!
This is the problem. its getting dark by 4.30 now. if you wouk 9-5 this leaves no daylight for the garden or lottie. I am a little more flexible with my working hours so can often get an afternoon in the garden here and there. even then it only amounts to a couple of hours or so before it gets too dark and cold to work. :( :( :(
No flexi time here
:'(
I prefer the morning, but moving the clocks about does not really affect me, as I go to work when I want to and come home when I feel like it. I also have every other friday and monday off.
Summer time is different as I usually have to put in a 16 hour day when we have deadlines to meet.
I have just looked at my watch and realised I have not changed it. Thats how often I look at it.
I have to say i love this time of year the dark evenings i love, i dont know why but i perfer the cold weather then the hot weather , i just love the changing of the seasons.
I would prefer to stay at GMT. Most official records are kept at GMT so there is always a problem in the summer when filling in a log - is it local time or GMT.
My daughter, who works shifts, finds herself on duty when the clocks go back and day off when they go forward. She does not get extra pay for the hour as it assumed it work itself out over the year.
That sounds typical.
Interestingly, ROSPA has been campaigning for a number of years for a permanent change to the UK's summer and winter time changes...

I hate the dark evenings - for me, that is the only downside of winter as I love the cold and the change in season, just hate the dark! However, I wouldn't want it dark in the mornings with the kids going to school. Being in a village we have very little street lighting - which is great as we do not suffer from light pollution, but I wouldn't like to send my little urchins into the playground in the dawn gloom - infact, I don't think they would go!! Mum remembers in the '70's when the clocks didn't change and she remember there were alsorts of accidents and horrid things happening to kids enroute to school.
I quite like dark evenings and the changes in the seasons. My other half hates it. He works shifts and sometimes has to work the extra hour. sometimes he works an hour less so itall pans out in the end. You can't please everyone all the time!!!
Is this the same sort of time zoning they tried when I was a kid in the 60's???
OR is that the other way round???( easily confused!!)
I recall going to school in the dark at 8.30am ish.
I thought that it was deemed to be unsafe -esp for school kids, going to school in the dark with rush-hour traffic!
Oh well ..I suppose that's what they do in Scandanavia!
If it's the other way round then cn't really see a problem withthat!!
