What's the occasion? (Party, Christmas play etc)
Does it have to be a quick-change job?
And does it have to match anyone else's outfit, or is this just a one-off?
... and for real-life inspiration, visit http://www.snowcrystals.com
Which also gives instructions on how to cut out snowflakes that look, well, snowflaky rather than starry! (click on Activities for Kids) -- good to stick on wings, balloons etc, perhaps?
Interrupting but, topically, No 7 grandchild has just been selected to be Bugsy Malone.
Frantic search for trilbies, stripes etc. Only 2 weeks to do it!!
Last thing Daughter had to make was the Pied Piper.
Given that the topic is about fun things for children and I have to "organise" my now 5 year old gdaughter's party next weekend, any advice on games and food? Don't know what's PC in party food these days..... :-[
its for a christmas play so i have some time but wanted to get started. some good links there i was thinking of wire net curtain material and then glitter spray just the shape and how to make it comfortable i am having trouble with
ooo ... my specialist subject. I used to do costumes for school plays and am helping out the local am dram society.
Are we talking a boy or a girl here ... either way, dress em all in white and make two snowflakes out of cardboard to wear like a sandwich board ... bit of glitter on the snowflakes after you've painted em white. Bit of sparkly stuff here and there on the clothes ... perfect.
If cutting out one big snowflake is too much of a pain in the arse ... just make a simple sandwich board and stick small snowflake cutouts all over it ... it'll be brilliant.

for my little girls birthday i just done small amounts of all sorts of things and stuck labels on the plates the parents were there so they just picked up what the kids would/could eat
kids like small things ... cold sausages are always a favourite, breadsticks, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes ... thing they can pop in their mouths and carry on with the fun!

shes a fidgety three year old so i want to make it as comfortable as possible otherwise it will be off before she See's the stage
You could make a quick wire shape (big enough to show over shoulders; not big enough to be a nuisance)
use the site I linked to earlier http://www.snowcrystals.com/ to get some fab inspiration from photos of real snowflakes if you want to get a feel for good shapes...
then cover that shape in silver or white tinsel (better still, I've seen tinsel-type garlands made of clear-iridescent plastic -- that'd look gorgeous.
A couple of comfy shoulder-straps made of broad elastic... then it's white nightie, dress, white fairy dress or whatever's easy!
Ah ... a little girl ... brilliant. She'll love the sparkly stuff ... go for some of that white tinsel about the place too ... and if you make the shoulder straps and side ties out of white ribbon stapled to the snowflake it's quick to pop on and off.
It's all soft and pretty and fairly easy to do ... you can use the back of a cornflake packet so it's nice and lightweight too.
Bless! We want pictures!
those pom poms on springs and a hairband (Claire's Accessories)?
white sparkly gunk rubbed into hair for spiky messy sparkly look?
really enjoying this thread! 8)

thanks triffid found a section on that site i can print off the snowflakes and cut them out ;D
A real sweetie! Also thanks for the advice! Sorry for poaching on your thread Tim K. I fond it much more difficult nowadays where so many parents are quite fierce about what their kids may and may not eat.
I could just provide a lottie selection and a cake!! ;)
and the magic wand! ;D

Tim, she's gorgeous! I had a little girl like her but she's gone off to uni now and wears black all the time, enjoy her, it goes too quickly!
Just thinking on how long your daughter has to wear the costume, could you just put snowflakes on the end of the springs from Claires on her head, so it is fun to wear without being uncomfortable and some cheap silver fabric from Fabric land to make a very basic dress, that would double up for an angel, fairy etc in the future in the dressing up box!
T.
My daughter was a snowflake in her first nativity. All we had to do was buy a white tshirt (Tesco value ones were about £1-50 for an adult one that covered most of her!) and a couple of lengths of silver tinsel. Cut the tinsel to fit round the sleeve edges and round the hem and tack it into place. I think we might have done the neck edge too. Spare tinsel was made into a ring for her head. Add a pair of white sparkly tights and all done!
Very easy to make and very easy to move around in and very easy to wear even for long periods of time.
Bob
thanks Bob the movement thing will be an issue as she is dancing and all sorts :)
first attempt at the wire frame thing failed although i now have a metal birds nest sculpture for my sculptured metal herons ;D ;D
will keep you all up to date on the progress
