The membermap
http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/action,googlemap
Has been updated to use the new google maps, should mean more detail, and some other bits which only I care about!
Dan
Hi Dan,
The detail for London has increased dramatically*. I think the map's really interesting, showing the spread of members round UK and the rest of the world although I am a wee bit suspicious of the allotment in Alaska :)
*I can see the hut on our allotment
I can see the roofs of my beehives, and count the fruit bushes.
The photo's seem a about 2 years out of date :'(
We still have the old slate roof on our house that we changed around the 2year ago mark.
But great to see the details like that. It will be such a help on many things when giving directions.
Thumbs up from me Dan ;)
I haven't worked out how out of date the shot of my plot is, but there have definitely been some changes. It must be a couple of years since my neighbour put up his new greenhouses, and they're not on it.
I don't know how often google update the satellite photos, the one near where I live is about 6 years out of date!
The upgrade was to do with some techy stuff, a side benefit was the upgrade of some areas.
Cheers
Dan
My area has a building site where the cinema complex over the road is now, so it's a few years old. I can't remember exactly when it went up.
There's been no update in Birmingham as you can plainly see the sculpture that was destroyed by vandals by setting it ablaze on 17-April-2003 in Centenary Square and there is no sign of the ferris wheel either, so I'd agree with Dan that the map is around 6years old.
The sculpture was unveiled in 1991.

No close in of Derby though!

Dan
mc55,
Could you check here
http://local.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=16532&topic=1499
and see if your browser version is listed.
Dan
yep, looks like it ...
Google Maps currently supports the following web browsers:
IE 6.0+ (download: Windows)
Firefox 0.8+ (download: Windows Mac Linux)
Safari 1.2.4+ (download: Mac)
Netscape 7.1+ (download: Windows Mac Linux)
Mozilla 1.4+ (download: Windows Mac Linux)
Opera 8.02+ (download: Windows Mac Linux)
OK, wanted to check your version, what version is it, and are you windows / apple or linux?
Hmm,
Just downloaded opera to my machine, version 9.02, and it works fine.
Do you have javascript enabled?
Wierdness. MC55 - I could see your pin when I looked on tuesday, but not mine a bit clockwise round Sheffield despite it being there on my details page.
Now mine seems to have appeared too having done nothing to it, but fbgrifter over towards Stockport seems to have vanished. Hang on, strike that last bit, I just went to double check and she is there again!
Aaargh! Confused now... :-\
Your confused !!! Can't see anything ??? ??? ???
Yes, tis brilliant,
I've not been able to see it for about a year or so, so it's great. Just zooming in to mine via dial up...god it's slow. then I'll check out the UK...
Hi Dan, I'm using version 9.0 ... but I've just been to check again and I can see all the pins - hurrah !
Hi
Yep about 6 years old, our allotments are 2 years old and the site was a soil spoil heap which closed 4 years ago.
The allotment site is before the soil spoil heap closing.
