I have been looking more carefully at this site now that I've taken the plunge and joined. I've managed to work out most things but I'm baffled about what the home page box entitled 'Flashchat users' means. Can anyone enlighten me please?
Sorry. I meant to say that I tried search and it didn't help. I hope I'm not being a pain.
This site has a chatroom called the lounge, which is accessible from the chat button at the top of the forum page. It uses software called 'Flashchat' which is downloaded onto your computer the first time you use it. This is quite common, and does not compromise your computer setup in any way (to my knowledge anyway).
Users actually in the chatroom are displayed ...
Hi,
It is one of the things only registered users gets to see ...
It is a real time chat system, at the top of the forum screen there is a chat button, click that and all will become clear!
Dan
Oh right I see, you must think me very stupid but I've only used a limited number of forums before and I've never come across ones with chat rooms attached. Can I ask another question or two? Curry, if I understand you correctly then if I click the button as Dan suggests then software will automatically be added to my computer. I've got a firewall so will this be okay? And Dan - am I right in assuming you are the 'poor Dan' that Tim alluded to in another post? Only I see you have the title 'Admin' so I assume you are the boss (or at least one of the bosses?) in which case thank you so much for the explanation, you must be so busy.
Yes the flashchat software will be visibly downloaded, and you can remove it if required through the control panel. As far as I am aware, the firewall doesnt make any difference, at least I have not experienced any problems. Dan may be able to comment on any other constraints for running flashchat.
Thank you for explaining that so clearly, Curry. When it comes to IT, I'm afraid so many people talk at a level way above my head!
