Used to be several.
Tim,
Moles do some pelleted seed
http://www.molesseeds.co.uk/homepage.htm
Thanks - have mailed them
your welcome
Whats the difference in this seed?
Being rolled in a clay and chemicals mix they are easier to handle and space, also supposed to germinate and grow better with fungicides reducing rot and some fert in the mix as well...
;D
Sorry, Rosy - got mislaid. As Dad says.
Hello Tim,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Yes, we sell a range of vegetable seeds including pelleted lettuce and carrot seed. If you send me a mailing address I will arrange for you to be sent our latest catalogue.
Kind regards
Robert Aldsworth
I suppose thats what the big farm use. I see they sell it by the gram does it work out more expensive?
Pelleted is always more expensive but, to me, it's worth while in not wasting all the thinnings - & time!
oh tim, don't miss the chance to train the grandchildren - seed tape
too early by far for paper chains ;)
Moles Seeds - what a catalogue!!
OK - geared to the commercial grower, but some very good sowing/harvesting charts.
And, yes - pelletd seed for Leeks, Lettuce & Carrots.
Does it include any organic seed, Tim?
Yes.
But as was shown earlier, we still face mainly commercial quantities.
5g is about the smallest - or 2500 pellets for Carrots & 500 'pills' for Lettuce.
But whatever, it contains much good info - such as the charts & Tomato flavour assessment.
One caveat, which I've not yet checked out - I believe that pelleted seed must be used within the year.
Thanks Tim, got to be worth a look but that's a lot of veg to squeeze into 152 Square yards :)
Indeed!
This is what I like about pelleted seed. Not a miss anywhere.
when my seeds arrived from Moles it came with a danger warning regarding pelletted seed (which I am glad to say I didn't order) - you've virtually got to wear an anti-nuclear outfit ;D well ok only partly kidding but you must wear gloves and don't touch the seeds with your hands and wash thoroughly afterwards etc etc
oh boy, not going down that road again - yeah easier to use ::)
They look good though!
GAS ALERT!! Let's be sensible?
Standard pelleted seeds are bulked up with an inert filler.
Some have a fungicide incorporated. Others are specially treated to order.
Question - Do you ever handle 13-times-sprayed fruit or vegetables from the supermarket? Do you ever use fungicides/pesticides/herbicides? Do you ever use bleach? Do you panic about the BBE date on food? Quite a number of everyday seeds are fungicide treated.
I still have hair left after over 40 years of exposure to seeds. But then I don't eat them or inhale them, & I do wash my hands well after handling.
A little common sense goes a long way, & a supplier does have to issue a disclaimer?
well I wish I had kept the warning sheet, maybe you didn't get one and I've never received anything like it from any other seed merchant
to answer your questions
I don't go anywhere near non organic produce in supermarkets
never use bleach
never panic about anything, esepcially BBE dates as I am well passed mine ;D have a nice day
Sorry - 'you' - I meant most people.
got the Moles catalogue on your say so tim and I'm well impressed. Pelleted seed used to cost a fortune when I was a gal but the way they sell in in this catalogue makes it a better buy for the allotment. Gonna try Rijnsberger onion pelleted in the spring - thank you for the tip (chomp chomp <gulp> there goes another hat ;D)
Hi Tim and everyone else, I have dealt with Moles for about 4 years now I think that there seed is second to none, yes you do have to buy in larger quantities but sometimes you end up paying less for more. It would pay one or two people that are close to one another to get there seeds from there and share them out. I grew the lettuce variety Dublin this year, it was the petted seed started it off under glass the pellet is treated and I had no trouble with any pest or decease's.
Only just heard 5 min ago that the shelf life is the same as for ordinary seed.
