Turnip rooted chervil was listed at http://www.thomasetty.co.uk/ which I found this morning.
It looks great, and roots do well on my plot, so I'm thinking of growing it :)
Has anyone grown it and can you comment on care/worthwhileness?
... and anyone fancy trying a pinch if I get it? :D
SSx
Go on then-just for you :)-I still wonder if it`s not the same as Hamburgh Parsley?
Remember seeing it before but never done anything about it... If any one gets skirret I'd have apinch of that as I have a soggy spot!

Hi ss, :D
Now i love chervil ;D there is always a pot on the go, I sow a pinch of seeds in a 8 inch pot & they grow really well. It makes a great cut & come again addition to salads. It is even growing well now, showing no sign of fading away. If anyone goes booze cruising to France look out for it in Auchan or other hypermarkets in the gardening section as CERFEUIL COMMUN OU SIMPLE. You get thousands of seed for about a £1. If there is a spare pinch of turnip rooted chervil I would like some too. :P
Adrian.
No problem adrian, pm me your addy and away they go :)
Hello!
Just logged in for the first time ever to reply to this...
I have a packet of turnip-rooted chervil at home and remember reading on the packet that the foliage was inedible, just in case there's confusion over which bits you can & can't eat - just the root I guess.
Well welcome aboard Urban Warrior.... hope you find enough to interest you to keep coming back... it's a bit slow today, most people on half term?
???
thanks u.w., welcome to the forum :D
I'm still waiting for the seeds to arrive! >:( ::)
Adrian & cleo, seeds arrived this morning, will send you a sprinkle shortly :)
Do report back next year on what it is like
Good luck with it
lol no pressure then flo :-[ :P ;) ;D
Maybe a few recipes and photos too? ;D
seeds arrived this morning-thanksxx-I`ve sown them in modules and put them in the polytunnel. All that scarifying malarky sounds a bit too much :)
To the chervil experimenters - did you see this on the Plants for a Future website? Comment from someone who's actually grown and eaten it!
Easily grown..wonder about potential as an invasive plant . Cold hardy like parsnips but with milder better flavor. Resembles a fat cream colored halflong carrot which is freeze proof. After cold storage for six to eight weeks or harvested November..was delicious. Rich, sweetish, nutty as noted above.. except that I found the peeled roots were excellant also, and cooked quickly. Mashed roots looked identical to mashed potatoes but were yellowish and much better tasting. This would seem to be a rootcrop destied to become a staple favorite fortemperate climates with its many attractive qualities and ease of cultivation. The freeze resistance combined with superb flavor and digestibility would seem to suggest an important role as a foodcrop of the future.
Can't wait. No sign of sprouts yet :P but they were only sown at the weekend :-\
Sounds very good :P
