for their 40th birthday? Gis a clue as I aint got an inkling what to get him indoors.
His likes...
motorbikes
beer
sleeping
???
Oh missed out ... eating.
A copy of the Good Beer guide if he hasn't already got one? Or Camra Membership... both last longer than the actual beer!
There is a company called exhilarate.com or something which do event days like Formula one driving, hot air ballons and all that nonsense... got my OH a tank driving day for her 40th.... several years ago now, then a surprise meal with loads of friends up to stay... my only concern is how to top that for the 50th which is getting closer... 47 next time...
:o
Nice pair of warm slippers, a full stomach lined with beer and a massage. :o ;D
Heldi, I have been trying to think of the special pressies I have bought my OH over the years and here are a few of them. A digital camera, a large telescope, an electric guitar, an electric train set, a digicam, a nice watch or a tool of some sort that he needed. Does he like clothes? Or how about something unusual l like a helicopter ride over the sea or something similar. My OH is very unmaterialistic so if it had a big "reduced in the sale" sticker on it, whatever it was he would like it. :) busy_lizzie
I shall be having the same worry next year Heldi! Flipping men!! Mine always wants something for the motorbike....but as I have no idea what is the fasionable biking thing, I always leave that to him!! Good luck and let us know what you go with so I can pilch the idea next July!! ;D
a nice pair of socks ;D
Reckon saddad has hit the nail on the head: CAMRA membership (for the family).
Have you thought of a track day so he can ride his bike to the limit in relative safety? Followed by a night in a hotel with a comfy bed for a good night sleep, but prior to that a nice meal in the restaurant, with all the beer he can drink?
All your suggestions really!
Gary
My wife took flew me to Edinburgh for a long weekend at this place on my 40th

It was very special ;D
Thanks !
I do like the Camra idea !
Erm, he doesn't like clothes cos he's got too fat and says nothing fits properly, looks right or is comfortable.
He used to compete in motorcross so I think a day driving/riding fast might appeal to him but having said that, because he's put on so much weight, last time he was on a motorcrosser he said it made him feel sooo unfit and he wasn't very happy with himself. Hey just thought...gym membership...he might be insulted though. I wonder???
Thought of a trip to Amsterdam from Newcastle...but we have no babysitters so I think I'll save that idea for a family trip. Kind've rules out nice meals, long weekends in hotels and suchlike too :( Also he is trying to diet as of this week so would he be miffed if I took him for a slap up meal somewhere? Probably not ;)
Got him an electric guitar last year and an acoustic the Christmas before.
He doesn't wear a watch which is a pain because I wouldn't have liked to get him a really posh one...I like watches :)
He has a van full of tools...he has his own business in property maintenance. So BL if you ever need any work done!!! (That applies to anyone in the Northumberland/Newcastle/Whitley Bay area lol)
He defo needs some new slippers! Kids can get him those. You gotta have socks doncha? :D
I've told him I'll be getting him a budgie or a tortoise if he doesn't help me out.
Helicopter rides? Hmmmm. That might be a good one to consider.
Huh why can't he just tell me what he wants and make life easy? I'll be getting all the rellies asking me soon too. ::)
what about a lazy-boy chair with a fridge under the arm for the beer?

You can even get them so that while hes sitting there drinking his cold beer he gets a massage!
Is he into classic bikes or the modern ones? Any particular make/model?
Lots of classic bike people have clubs and organise weekends away (short-hand for a knees-up, catch-up and admire all the bikes-up ::))... they can be great fun! e.g. the Beezumph http://www.tr3oc.co.uk/beezumph00a.html (http://www.tr3oc.co.uk/beezumph00a.html), was held a short while ago. Similarly there are BMW bike clubs, BSA bike clubs, Royal Enfield Bike Clubs and so on and so forth.
The Annual Bike shows can also be a good day/weekend out e.g. the Classic Bike Show, but the big 'uns for this year have already happened, so it'd mean a wait...
Got someone who won't say what they want either... rrrrggggrrrrrhhhhh. Nightmare.
If you have a bloke who's not beer orientated, there's always the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
Expensive in year 1 (as it includes one of their cask strength bottles) and the whiskies look expensive - until you dilute them to a more normal 40% and see how much you get...
moonbells (who can't bear the stuff!)

Yes, it's nice to spend some time apart from the OH occasionally ... I expect she enjoyed the break.
You could get him a shaving lesson in London by one of the top barbers followed by some custom made aftershave lotion?
if you do manage to get a babysitter you could take him to Dublin for the w/e and visit the Guiness factory. Or maybe arrange to go on one of the many brewery tours - there are a couple near York which maybe do-able for you.
I like the idea of tickets to a biking event - think you've missed the superbike tour for this year, but there is the International Motorcycle Show at the NEC (27 October - 5 November).
Does he like football ? Could get him a ticket to one of the games maybe, they also do hospitality packages.
