Crumbs, forum still playing up I see! Posting this via Reply button on Recent Posts.
What's everyone been up to then?
After months of drought, now it's rained a bit the allotment is sticky, and muddy, and all I can think of is - come on, dry up a bit so I can do some digging!
Weeds have sprouted EVERYWHERE  :(
Crops still coming though - runner beans thick and fast, tomatillos and cape gooseberries still ripening, wild pears and crab apples galore, onions, cabbage, carrots, jerusalems artichokes and tonnes of beetroot. Anyone got a decent recipe for beetroot wine?  ;D
Amazingly, some tomatoes that I left on vines but hung up in the shed are ripening beautifully, and only one or two have fallen foul of the blight (I picked my entire crop a couple of weeks ago when the first signs showed but didnt have room in the house for these cherry toms). This living room floor is still covered in trays of tomatoes in various states of ripening.
Used the first Crown Prince squash - I'd forgotten just how nice they are, and this re-discovering tastes of things is one of the advantages of eating mostly seasonal veg!
Autumn raspberries are coming along nicely, am picking every other day and getting loads, which is a relief after the awful summer crop.
Come on folks, let's hear your news  :)

Hi, nice to see someone posting, it is so quiet on here now.  I think Dan is perhaps on his holidays and will get a shock when he finds a whole host of messages when he gets back!  I am really missing A4all, but it will be well appreciated when it comes back.

It is raining here too and very windy, I haven't picked all my apples yet so hope they hang on in there till the weekend.  My courgettes are nearly finished, runners still going strong, tomatoes, still plenty on the plants but I shall bring them in tomorrow to ripen indoors.  I have yet to eat a squash, grew Winter Festival and Butternut, hopefully at the weekend when veggie daughter is home, there are loads on the windowsill, looks wonderful.  I also have loads of spinach and chard which she loves so will be looking out a good recipe to use it.  Beetroot and carrots ready now too.

Which autumn raspberry do you grow?  I am just planning a new fruit bed and plan to have lots of raspberries so am interested to know which I should plant.

Anyone else posting...? :)

The autumn raspberry I grow is Joan J - the berries are big and the flavour is good. I'm not keen on the types with prickly stems, and these don't have prickles at all. I've got 2 rows of them, one in harder, poorer soil than the other - this row suffers, they definitely like the soil in the other row, which is much moister and softer. Think I got it from Marshalls originally, if not it would have been one of the larger mail order companies. Started with a dozen canes, and have built up the rows with the suckers produced over the years. Hope this helps.

Thought I was the only one with the system error. Had my IT manager looking at it, he could not sort it. He thought it was my pc cos my friend could get on no problem. At least I got my system defragged, cleaned up and my temporary internet files emptied.
