Does anyone have an allotment in Calais or nearby, or have a link with any one that does? ???
Our Allotment Society is looking to organise a trip over to allotments in Calais if we can find a contact to organise it through. We have two people who speak French, one of whom comes from France but from much further down.
Any help/contacts would be appreciated.
cheers!
lady of the land
Hi
I did not think that they had allotments in France??
I go to calais about 4 times a year and most people seam to grow in there own gardens
Louise
me and lady of the land have seen them on holiday when we passed them in the car. :o
ah.. i will have a chat with some of my french friends and find out what the call them gor a google search
Yes I have driven past them too, on the way south. The ones I saw all had very uniform sheds that must have all been built to go with the plots.
Will be really interested to know how you get on. Please let us know and post some pictures.
Good luck...
Oooo me to! The children and I love to spot the plots and are so envious of their lovely neat sheds! I think there are a couple of sites very clsoe to each other. I'm another who will be interested in how this story pans out! ;D Good luck from me to!
Seen plenty driving from Calais to Adinkerke in Belgium down the Route de Boubourg. The company I work for (Borax) have a factory /plant in Coudekerque so used to drive past them often. I THINK that they are called Community Gardens in France - can ask our french chef!

My mum lives in France but out in the country. Where they live most people have so much land they don't know what to do with it.
I will ask her next time I speak to her and let you know.
By the way she is Brittany area not Calais does that matter?

French chef didn't know so I told him to stick to cooking!!!! ;D

An amazing gardening trip in that area would be to the Hortillonages in Amiens: a huge site of floating gardens all run as small holdings. You go round it on a boat and it's very cool! It's not far from Calais and perfectly do-able by train.
Hi,
Just to let you know, I have seen allotments near Caen, which is down the coast from Calais. They looked quite close to peoples houses, so they may have been really big back gardens, but looked quite like allotments. Fancy that! :D
Thank you for all your help, hopefully will be able to organise a trip.
