Title: Help! Urgent competition question.
Post by: HappyCatz on September 29, 2006, 19:43:17
Tomorrow is the village show and it is the first time that I have entered.  Am planning to put in a butternut in the squash/pumpkin class but can't decide which one!  I have three specimens, the biggest is 7lbs but has a few notches in the skin, the next is also quite large [51/2lbs] but the skin colour is uneven, the smallest of the three is absolutely lovely looking and I am tempted to go with that but is it all about size or is form important too???  Your advice would be most welcome.

Well, HappyCatz, I think I would go for looks, rather than size.

Having said that, what does the show schedule say?  Does it say largest, or does it just say squash/pumpkin?

Oh dear. I don't think I'm much help, but go with your instincts!!

Although I've been to loads of shows, I've never put myslef through the torture of actually 'showing'.

All the best, and hope you get the 'red card'. (I think that's the colour for First!).

If the schedule says largest put the largest in because quality is not important.

However, they are usually judged on quality so if the smallest is best put that one in.
