Honestly, glad I cut the back grass yesterday. Today I was hoping to cut the front grass. Weeded and dead headed the bed, swept and tidied, then made a cuppa and trundled up the garden to get the lawnmower, and by the time I got back to the house, it has started to rain....just a few drops....and then the heavens OPENED!! Blimey is it absolutely tiddling down here in my part of Essex. Great for the ground, but I really really wanted to get that grass cut!! Am now baking instead! ;D Have a good day people!
Same weather here in the Midlands, fortunately I am not outside so it doesn't matter ...
hi
im up north in blyth weathers glorious here hope it stays like this all weekend need to get cracking at lottie :)
Sorry might be my fault, River Dart canoeing season starts this weekend and I have been raindancing! Its lashing down in Devon. I will do a sundance on monday and we can get back up the allotment :)
Really nippy first thing in the mornings until the mist rolls back onto the sea. Lovely to see all the spider webs alight with little jewels of water. Today has warmed up to a beautiful sun shiney day. Been up the lotty picking some flowers for home and watching my hens gad about in the sunshine, all whilst being serenaded by a Robin. The grass has been very wet lately but we had a good wind yesterday which dried it enough to whip out the mower. Rain was expected but I think it must have got blown out to sea.
Now I'm wondering what lovely yummies EJ has been making !! ;D
flatcap...my Ma lives in Blyth. :)

Did that 15 years ago - went over the waterfall backwards (but still stayed upright). Did the washing machine. ;D
Tell me about it. I need to strim my wayawrd paths and edges on the plot. It rains all night and by the time I get back from work everything is definately 10" higher than before and it's twilight so I can't see anything! Down here in the armpit of London's East End (at work) it's threatening to rain, OH says it's beeing peeing down at home etc.
Suns out now, but the grass is way to wet to cut. I made 8 apple crumble heldi and cooked down 3 roasting tins of tomatos to freeze in portions. Gallons of the stuff!! ;D
hi heldi
where bouts in blyth does your mam live im in cowpen estate . its gone very dark here hope rain isnt coming
Mmmmmmmm,I loves apple crumble me! ;D
Cowpen too flatcap! I'll bet you've seen her an all..she's erm...quite distinctive lol.
i am feeling very quilty about not going up to the allotment at all this week
I just know the slugs would have got to the last of my spuds!
I still need to finish covering the weed membrane with wood chips and waterproof the shed!
Hopefully sunday will be better!
L
No chance of getting on the lottie today! rain rain and yet more rain here in Somerset. :( :( I know we need it, and I should't moan, but its our only day off this week, and we're housebound!!!!!!!!
We seem to have alternate days of good weather, - todays the sunny one. Clear blue sky and lovely sunshine this morning.
Flatcap, just along the road from you in the lovely seaside resort of Whitley Bay. ;D

All we have done this morning is unblock drains and clear away mud! One of our residents has had water pouring in over her front door, due to another residents drain on her balcony being blocked. Another one has had hot water gushing out of her taps and couldn't turn it off, she had the emergency plumber out to fix it, and then her smoke alarm went off. Whilst she was dealing with the plumber she burnt her pork.!!!!!!!!
I am sitting here looking out the window at heavy rain and listening to thunder.
I really need to get up to the plot and get the rest of the beds filled, lift any spuds the slugs and worms have left and get the weeds up.
I also need to get the beds i want to leave for spring planting put to sleep.
I plan on doing this by getting a couple of shovels of horse manure and some bone meal dug in and then cover the bed in some sheets of newspaper and straw to stop the weeds taking hold. I was tempted to cover in some black plastic sheeting but i want to keep the worm activity and i want to get some frost on the soil.
How are you putting your site to sleep?
It's been throwing it down in Birmingham as well. We still need it though; I'm OK for the time being, as my plot is next to a stream, but it's run dry the last two summers, and when it does the water table drops like a stone. What we need is a long, wet winter.
My only worry is that I've been having a series of attacks of migraine, and as a result I left some flower seeds out in the wet. Nothing to be done now but get some compost fast, plant them, and bring them all through the winter in a cold frame.

Half the beds will be overwintering crops (leeks, onions, garlic, broadies, winter greens) and the rest covered in organic stuff to keep the worms busy and weeds away. Really must sow winter tares on the new half plot :P Will be doing some cosies - straw and fleece - for tender globe artichoke and asparagus. Once the plot is settled into slow winter rhythm I'm itching to clean, oil and sort my tools, clean and sort beanpoles, put shelves up in the shed, get some proper string for the line, whack marking pegs in, sort out seeds, and plan a pond for next year :)
hi bizzi lizzi
i know whitley bay well had many a good night out there now after a day at the lottie all im fit for is collapsing on the settee or is that age catching up on me :)to heldi lots of wierd and wonderful people in cowpen i went for a paper 8.50 sat morning the guy in front was that drunk he was struggling to get money out of his pocket ;D
I could really do with cutting the front lawn but it will be dripping wet from now until goodness knows when.
I think I'm going to have to get out there with the scissors just to do the edge next to the border before it overspills.
and upstairs neighbour STILL hasn't fixed the guttering like she said she would so there is usually a lake in my border stopping me from planting anything.
I stuck two black buckets there yesterday and they were filled within 30 mins.
and it's cold this morning ! Oh for auto vents !

Lorna
Aw!! Hope your day goes okay Joanne and you are feeling much better!! :-* Monday is always the worst day, so once today is over it will be a breeze. :) busy_lizzie
I find that fantasising about the death of my boss helps temendously... ;D
roflmao, thanks for all your good wishes.
it wasn't actually too bad, i just kept mentally floating back to the greenhouse(s).
the desk wasn't THAT untidy, and only 95 emails to get through which were done in about 5 mins !
it poured this afternoon which was a bit of a blessing, meaning i couldn't go out to play if i wanted to !
the worst thing was that it spreads like wildfire when someone is back, so the phone started !!! might just leave it off the hook tomorrow.
;D
Hey KP, just read your blog. Really good read, mate 8) Reading about your onions & garlic's reminded me that I've got to get an elephant garlic off to you tomorrow - sorry that it will only be the runt of the litter :o but from little cloves monstrous garlics grow....or something ???
;D
I sat and read through it last night, but got confused when I tried to type a comment, shouldn't that bit be straight forward??
cheers chuck. just added today's epissedle. i need your addy pal for the alstroemerias ! did Katie get back to you at all ??
lorna, when i first started you had to log in to post a comment. i thought i'd changed that, but let me know what's happening and i'll see if i can change anything in the settings.
oh and lorna, let me have your addy for your wee package.
it easy just to ignore a day, and then a day runs into 3 and before you know it, you give up totally. i'm really going to try hard to keep it going though, just to remind me next year what i did last, if you get my drift.
;D

For all our readers ;) Katie is someone I 'found' on Freecycle 8) - she was asking for a shed or greenhouse cos she'd just got a lottie (well, it happens...look at SS's Superior Structure?) and she also wanted seeds. So I replied and told her about Lotties4 (as you do :)) Here's hoping that she joins us soon.
