Title: Grape juice - using in jam
Post by: jennym on September 22, 2006, 21:39:43
Having a good crop of grapes this year, I want to try using some of the juice in a concentrated form for sweetening jam. Has anyone any experience of this? Also would like to know if anyone has tried extracting grape juice using a juicer and what the results were?
Many thanks.

No and no  :-\  But I do make fab grape jelly from the grapes from mums vine.  It is delicious - not a great setter unless kept in the fridge, but smashing smeared over meat for a glaze.

How do you get the juice out then Emma? Or do you boil the fruit whole?

Yes, cook them gently, then attack with the potato masher, then through a seive, then through a jelly bag.  I do have a juicer, but have never given it a try with the grapes.

Thanks - glad to hear I'm not the only one that values the good old potato masher  ;D
