Title: How lucky!!!!
Post by: Meg on September 22, 2006, 11:22:11
???I put diesel in my petrol car. I really had to struggle to put it in and then the penny dropped. I did manage to put £3.02 in. At the forecourt they said I might be lucky if I filled it with petrol that the damage would be minimal. It is smelling some thing awful but so far it seems ok. Am thinking I need to destress badly. :-[

I'd take it to garage and the tank drained and fuel system flushed out ASAP, diesel can do a lot of damage to a petrol engine - i expect the Cat is already kanacked.

A friend of mine did the same - only the other way round - petrol in diesel.  Mutual friend owns the local garage - and advice was to take it into a garage sooner rather than later....  preferably BEFORE starting the engine. Obviously this is a little late for you - but my advice would be to get professional help!  Good luck

My colleagues have done this when I was running the vehicle fleet !

One was a full tank (which got taken to the manufacturer, drained etc), one was only part tank which was then filled to the top with the appropriate fuel (under advice) and did no further damage.

Are you a member of a breakdown service ?  If so, give them a call and ask their advice.
