Title: Grass
Post by: Tilia on September 20, 2006, 15:27:00
I started some grass seed about a month ago and it's about 4" long now. Should I cut it? Also, is it too late to put more seed down?

Yes, no.
Er, if you have a roller, then roll the grass first and then let it stand up before mowing. If not then keep the mower blades high to avoid pulling the grass out of the ground.

 :-[ Ehm...
I've got a rusty old push mower which doesn't seem to do much except flatten the grass! Should I borrow my neighbours rotary petrol mower do you think?

If you use a rotary mower you won`t need to roll the grass first - there is no tugging action such as there is with a cylinder lower.  If it`s 4inches long now, I wouldn`t cut it to below 2 inches at first, then lower the cut gradually to no less than 1 inch over the next week or two.

Hmm, I think I might borrow the rotary. It just looks so fragile...

So is it too late to put more seed down?

Sorry Tilla, did not get back to you on this. See the second word of my first answer. You just about have time to sow some more seed before the soil gets too cool for it to germinate.
