Title: bad potatoes

i was just checking some of my potatoes and came accross a couple that have got got brown spots on the potato and they have gone soft,  Does anyone know what this could be?

sounds like you have either worm damage or a bit of blight

does that mean all the spuds will just go of now, ive removed all the bad ones, thedy had gone wet and mushy

It depends on exactly what the cause of the problem is, and the important thing is to try and establish that first.  If the potatoes are mushy already it doesn`t sound like blight, as the initial rot with blight tends to be dry and granular.

Are there any signs of disease of any sort on either the foliage or the stems, or are the bases of the stems discoloured in any way?  Are the leaves discoloured, or rolled either upwards or downwards at the edges.

Is it possible to post a picture of an affected potato, first whole, and then sliced in halves lengthwise, and if there are any signs on the foliage, a shot of this too?

ive establised that i have a bit of blight, it really seams to have effected the red deseree spuds and not the cara whites, will check the two sacks again in a weeks time and so on
