please, please make sure you have first aid kits at lottie,
today I have almost cut the top off my left little finger, when cutting a handful of dead seed heads off herb plants. :o
the securtares cut down through my finger nail and carried on down my finger.some one heard my scream and my lottie friends got out a first aid kit and bound my hand to stop the blood flow and then took me to a local GP where my finger was bound again and I was sent to A &E where it took two nurses to join my nail and finger together :o its got to be re dressed on Monday, and I've had a tetanus shot, and its taken all night to type this ;D/shades x
uuuhhhhh /shades how gruesome! :-X :'( :-\
on my to do list for the new shed straight away :o
thank you for taking the trouble to type this with your poor finger, hope it comes out of the experience OK :)
What a horror :o and so easy to do. So sorry to hear. Hope you've got some painkillers? You're right about the 1st aid kit AND keeping anti-tetanus injections up to date. You lot with little kiddies - you reading all this?
Get Well Soon, Shades :)
Oh dear sounds horrible - OH was very concerned about you. Hope that it heals up quickly and that you are ok for gardening again.
TAKE CARE ;)
omg, I'm wincing just reading this - ouch. Hope its OK ... who'd 'av thought it could be so dangerous out there.
yep, mines up to date with all you could want for stings plus cuts and suncream and we're soooo lucky the next building is the doctors ;D
I once had the end of my thumb off with a grass hook, makes you feel quite queasy
And good idea to have mobile phone with you as well - it could have been a lot worse!
oooh, gawd that sounds nasty. Rest up, take it easy and just 'cos the pain's going doesn't mean you can get back to weeding/digging/pruning again untill given the all clear!
:)
thanks for caring, :)
been doing a bit of pruning in the garden today up a ladder, but as I had had a few neat gins I felt brave ;D
you do take two working hands for granted, I can't wash my hair, have a bath properly etc as I must keep the dressings clean and dry ::) how? any suggestions? I've tried a rubber glove, still lets water in....
also finger feels hot and swollen, me thinks I have an infection... oh joy../shades x
Shades, if you haven't already done so, will you get in touch with your out-of-hours GP? If you've got an infection starting it'd be wise to sort it out urgently.
Good luck!
~Have tried to send you messages but your inbox is full!
Take care- Flossx
ooooo Shades, made me cringe just thinking about that! I often knick my fingers with my secateurs, and it makes me say words a young lady (well I can dream) shouldn't even know! :o You take care of your finger - you shouldn't be typing, you should have it raised on a fluffy pillow so it can heal! Look after yourself!!
Aaaarrgggghh. Sounds gruesome A/S. Hope poorly finger has improved somewhat today. That's certainly going to throb.
As to the bathing and hairwashing etc., have you got a slave? They can be very useful in situations like this. ;D
Oh no hope it is sorting its self out get plenty of rest. Things like that are so annoying especially when you have done it to yourself. I guess wearing a pair of gloves would be good advice too. I am often the only person on the lottie and it does make you a tad wary of what you are doing. Hope it clears up fast.
thanks again :)
looking back I was sooo lucky. I had my accident at dinner time, usually I'm the only person there at this time.I have no transport,no mobile phone, only my sandwiches ::) :P,everyone else seems to go home for lunch.
On Weds, certain folk with plots around me,stayed a bit longer, one had a car,and one had a first aid kit. I was lay ed on the floor feeling queasy and they looked after me.
I feel soooo stooopid as I did it myself and I'm not very good at sitting down and not doing anything ;D ;D/shades x
Oh shades, sorry to hear! :-\ Hope you're back gardening soon. I always bring the mobile, now I'll bring plasters too.

ooooo Shades, made me cringe just thinking about that!
Oh me too, blergh!
Sorry to hear you hurt yourself! Hope you manage to stop yourself from doing too much, and give yourself time to recover. Treat youself to a wash and blow dry at the hairdresser :)
I keep a roll of Micropore in my bag, find you can make it a tight enough fit to close wounds and stem bleeding on an emergency temporary basis and you can build up the layers as needed - specially great for blisters. Swear by Micropore, I do 8)
I sliced my LH little finger with secateurs at a friends house about three weeks ago now... thankfully he was a ST John's... It has just healed up nicely but still hurts when you do every day things like tie shoe laces!!!
:o
My bum has gone cold just reading about your accident.Do hope it heals OK and doesn't give you too much pain. Take care.
Lorna
saddad thanks , now I know how long it takes to get better :) apparently it's a clean cut , so I did something right ::)
Lorna bless your heart, you have more on your mind than my silliness :-*
moggle and squashfan, been to lottie today couldn't do much, a bit frustrated, I want to garden ;D /shades x
Alishka - don't know if you will be able to help with this, but reading your early post about tetanus vaccinations got me thinking.
For various reasons my two girls haven't had tetanus vacs/boosters as the NHS seems only to offer them in combination with other vaccines. This may not be the case but this is what my practice nurse told me.
Do you know if you can get single tetanus vacs for children?
My girls really should have them.
Tabby
Angle Shades,
Am such an airhead.... forgot to put this in my last post. ::) When your dressing comes off, get some Hypercal cream from the chemists. It's homeopathic and is fantastic for helping cuts to heal up quickly. It also lessens the scarring as well.
Hope you are feeling more able soon x
P.S - try taping up the wrist of the rubber glove with waterproof plaster. It stings a bit when you take it off, but it's worth it to be able to have clean hair!! ;D
For Tabby.....haven't your children had the combined DPT shot? In which case it'll be up to you to have them done separately, and possibly pay privately, to do so. With all the publicity over the past 2 years or so, I think I remember that most NHS doctors will only offer the 3-in-1 and I think that that was, basically, because of the funding they get? I'm sure that you'd be able to find a doctor to vaccinate privately, tho.
PS for Shades.....Micropore instead of waterproof plaster round the cuffs of the rubber gloves! Doesn't hurt so much when you take it off ;D
thanks to you both ;D ;D/shades x
Alishka,
Mine haven't had the DPT because I didn't want them to have the P bit of it..... a schoolfriend's baby brother was brain-damaged as a result of having the vaccine. I know it's a very rare occurance but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I watch them like hawks if they have any sort of hint of a cough!
They don't offer the T without the P at my surgery, but if you can get them done separately then I will start searching for a doc/clinic that gives me that option. Don't mind paying - worth it if they are going to be on the lottie with me.
Thanks x
Ooooooooooooooch!!!!! :'( Hope it feels better quick Shades and I hope they were good to you up at A&E. Been sat up there too many times myself.
:),
just an update on the finger situation!,had dressing changed twice this week, and its healing nicely :) :)so the nurse said, so I had a look, OMG!! YUK !
Anyway, I asked the important question, will my nail heal so I can wear mauve nail polish again ;D .The answer was yes, so I'm a very happy, but vain bunny!!/shades :-*
Glad all is going well. Now about nails, not finger but TOE nails. 4 years ago I had two ingrowing nails removed. Injections to numb were bl**dy painful but was pleased it was over. I then had real pain, went back to chiropodist and was informed it was to do with the chemical they use to stop regrowth and I had what they called fennel(sp) burn. The pain went on for months, even had to wear soft boots at Charlie's funeral.
OK thought all is well. Then believe it or not both nails have regrowth in a small area. No way am I going through that again.. Always wear knee length tights if I am wearing sandal cos the bits of nails are not a pretty sight ;D ;D ::) When my son-in-law is cheeky to me I just say "Do you want to see my nails"" He runs ;D ;D
ooo poor you Lorna, don't go through it again if you don't need to,I wouldn't ;)
my sister in law to be goes green when I show her my poorly finger ;D ;D
if I were you I would wear open toed sandals without tights everytime your son-in law comes round, it would keep him on his toes so to speak ;) :)/shades :-*
angle. He is in my good books at the moment it is his eldest daughter that is going to present my first great grandchild!!!!!
;D ;D on second thoughts better keep those toes covered for now ;D/shades :-*
My finger is little worse than a pale scar now... but it doesn't half sting when I catch it or knock it against anything!!!
;D
::)too right saddad, my fingers healing nicely according to the nurse today, and she should know! and I've got to dress it myself now, which means looking at it :o/shades x
