I love daddy long legs and always have.  Funny as I hate spiders, especially in the house, but these lovely winged things I love.  Must be plenty of leatherjackets in the grass on your site Robert.

I don't mind these either. But I also hated spiders until in a mad moment i bought a Tarantula from a pet shop in coventry. I never atempted to pick it up but just watching how it caught its food was amazing.

But one day it was lying on its back motionless and i thought it was dead. I left it and when i returned i literally watched it crawl out of his own skin and leave its old body behind. I read later a terantula's skeleton is on the outside of his body so when it's to big for the old skin it gets out of it.

If your scared of spiders do some reading and watch there behaviour there amazing. I've not crushed a spider in 6 years

sorry for rambling nice pic BTW

You're quite right there are plenty of leatherjackets, but unlike the wireworms, they've never caused me any problems. i only have a small area of grass now, but there are loads of partially-cultivated plots about, so the things flourish.

Coincidence that I should see this lovely picture today.
Last night, I caught two daddy longlegs in my lounge, and put them outside.
It is the first time we have ever had them indoors.

We have had gigantic spiders in the house this year again.
Luckily, I am not afraid of them.

Loads of crane flies here too. I have to catch them for my daughter to look at...she is very much into bugs and insects.

Also stacks of a particular moth. Flies during the day and has a white y shape on its wings. Haven't got my wildlife book close-by to give it's proper name. Hundreds of them and has been for a couple of months.

Good pic Robert.  Daddy Long Legs are very very common around here and each winter I have to clear out all the dead uns from my Lights.  Heck, I sweep them up in my duster every week.  Hate when one lands in my hair....... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re Nice pic Robert. Last night I was in bed reading as usual at midnight and I heard a noise. I though OMG I have a mouse in the loft. It turned out to be a daddy long legs had flown up into my "paper" lampshade..Sigh of relief, although I am not frightened of mice I would hate to think I had one in the house. Then this morning when I was having my shower one decided to wizz round and round inside the shower curtains.
