Title: quinces
Post by: KLJ on September 12, 2006, 09:56:33
I have been offered some very large (around the size of a tennis ball) quinces if I pick them myself.  How do I tell if they are ripe for picking?

Many thanks  Kate

I´d wait as long as possible- weather permitting. till some of the fruit fall off the tree.

I have my own Meeches Prolific and I try to leave them on the tree until the end of Oct... if the frost stays away... they never really ripen but the extra couple of weeks makes cutting them much easier..
Japanese quince are usually ripe by now...
