Title: What is this?
Post by: Emm P on September 11, 2006, 17:34:08
It is big.
I think it is a frog, but have never seen one this colour before.

ah its gorgous is what it is.  i am not sure of the difference twixt frog and toad ( i know that someone will tell us) but in my own garden i regularly find frogs/toads of many different colours, from light yellow through browns to dark green.  i love frogs and toads they are great.

I love them all, too, Sarah.
Toads have a warty type skin, don't they?
I can never tell the difference, either.
I too have different coloured frogs come to our pond. But I have never seen one as light as this.

That's definitely a frog, with the long legs and dark streak behind the eye. Toads like dryer habitatls away from the breeding season as well.

He's beautiful :-* and deffo a frog. A question I'd always wanted to ask (or Google but never got round to it)...do frogs, chameleon-like, change colour to adapt to their surroundings? All mine are of various colours, ranging from light like the chappie in the pic (similar to the one which lives under a decking square on a lawn) through green  to dark, dark brown - which just happen? to make them merge in with their habitats in the garden. Anyone know? (or do I have to Google & come back to tell you)? ;D

I love frogs!! Hoppy lil blighters! I have toads at the plot and they hang out in the PT, they tend to walk and not hop, and there's no pond near! They hang out in the compost pile, which makes compost hurling time fun  ::).. and take weeks.... ::)  Found this pair in my pond at home a while back..

It's amazing how many people have an affection for frogs, isn't it.
:)

Thanks, all.

This time of year our pond is hop full of frogs, but come spawning time, when I want loads of frogspawn, they all b*gger off to the neighbouring ponds to make whoopee!  Am thinking next spring of leaving some nice scatter cushions, maybe an adult amphibian mag, some candles and a bottle of wine by the pond.... ;D

Our frogs had a second mating season last year - in the autumn.
Daft things.

Goes to show how global warming is messing the wildlife up.
