Title: Pumpkins starting to grow again
Post by: Rosyred on September 09, 2006, 12:20:19
I've had one pumpkin from a plant that trailled round the garden with huge leaves but having to cut the pumpkin off as it was being eaten I left the plant alone just cutting it back a little. Today I have a fruit on a flower will it grow now its getting colder?

So long as this mild weather lingers, they will grow, but they will never make huge fruits.  I quite like this time of year with smaller fruits as the skin stays softer and some pumpkins are incredibly tasty when picked still immature.  I leave my vines until the plants have kicked the bucket, so they can keep going until nearly Christmas.  Biggest problem is the wet and the fruits rotting on the wet ground.  If you can lift them, do it to keep them dry and allow the air to circulate.
