I have just bought some of those things like yogurt pots filled with a gel for rooting cuttings. I've popped some cuttings in but has anyone else ever tried them ? They cost 3.99 for 6 so they're quite expensive though each pot is supposed to be able to do 3 cuttings.
Does anyone know weather you can make something similar out of the water retentive gell you can get if you add water with tomatoe food for nutrition. Has any one tryed anything like this???
:) :)
Cheers
Alan
Hi Gillianbc.
I tried the gel with buxus sempervirens cuttings last year.
I was'nt very successful.
Did the 3cuttings per pot and ended up with 3plants at the end of it all.The other cuttings did'nt root at all.
It was good fun being able to observe the growing of the roots on the couple that developed.
Hope you are luckier than i was
Anne
Tried them when they first appeared, without a great deal of success, but others report good results. If it works for you, you can re-use them, if you remove the rooted cuttings carefully and leaves the majority of the gel behind.
I had good results with these for golden hop cuttings a few years ago...I find them tricky to root now this product seems to have disappeared :(
has anyone tried this stuff or similar?

Yep I have used clonex! Works well IMHO and not just on the plants that it is being promoted for!!
When i did my floristry course at college, our tutor showed us a way to root cutings.
The green oasis foam you can buy in blocks or circles, soak in water push the cuttings in & keep wet should root in a reasonable time 2/3wks depending on the plant. I have only ever tried fuschias, did OK. took about 3/4wks.
