Pumpkin Carving Category - 2006
This thread is for the pumpkin carving category. Here are a few rules:
1. The winner of this category will receive a small prize.
2. The pumpkin you enter must have been carved by you but does not need to have been grown and cared for by you.
3. You are allowed to enter a pumpkin on behalf of your child or grandchild.
4. The pumpkin must be photographed and the picture posted on this thread together with a short description about your carving.
5. Even if you don't think you'll win, please post a photo as we'd all like to see everyone's efforts.
6. Closing date: 5th November 2006
7. The winner will be decided by vote. I'll set up a poll after the closing date.
Good luck everyone :D
I didn't grow pumpkin this year but drove past a pumpkin farm in the country. They had the usual day glo orange footballs, plus a few Cinderella whoppers with salmon pink skin mottled in bluey green. The chap on the stand said they were from seed introduced by the grandkids, and he didn't expect to sell many, even at £1 each :o We got it home made 6 litres of gorgeous creamy pumpkin soup and a funny face (No.1 son did both, gf did the design)

I've kept seed and will grow it next year. The taste is outstanding and the flesh deep orange - I usually find pumpkin tasteless and watery but this wasn't :D
Would anyone else like to try some of the saved seed?

And does anybody know what it is called please?
Well, you'd think that carving a pumpkin was a fun experience... not for me, boy did I get stressed. :) There was pumpkin alllllllllll over the kitchen, then a bit of it snapped off (not telling you where though, thats my secret!!) However the result is not too bad. (Not home grown though... £1.48 from ASDA)

FABULOUS soph! :o 8) ;D
Excellent carving, I wondered about getting a carving tool so as not to go right through the flesh?
Wonder if can use a drill like a router?
Is that fridge lights in the background???

I bought a Dremel pumpkin carving tool. 8)

Not too bad but it kinda mushes up the flesh and flings it EVERYWHERE!! I resorted back to the tried a trusted knife in the end. The carving tool doesn't make the edges look very crisp either. I think if I'd have scooped the pumpkin in the morning and let it dry out a bit and carved it later in the day it might have worked better.

Well after seeing soph`s carving I thougt I would have a go! Expecting to curse and swear when I snapped bits off, it went surprisingly well! ;D
Used stanly knife and cordless drill and penknife.

oo scary! :o ;)
it's very clever taking off the skin and leaving the flesh, very subtle - guess it stops the candle being blown out by draughts too ::)
Here is mine and my youngests pumpkin, we took it to our allotment halloween party last night.
I've stuck it in the fridge hoping it will last till tuesday :)
We carved the front and back which was a good idea until we lit it then we found out the wind goes right through it :(

Supersprout, I would love some of your pumpkin seeds if you still have some left. Not sure I have anything to swap though. MM
My long winded way of posting a picture is via AOL Home Page
I put the picture on there and then right click on the pic and select properties. Then I copy the web page/pic name and paste it onto A4A
by doing (http://paste%20the%20bit%20in%20here%20then%20do)
Hope that helps....

Thanks Leonnie. I've emailed them all to MrsKP and she is going to post them for me because I was getting fed up !
Here you go folks, here's Heldi's pumpkins
I'll leave Hell's to do the labelling.
;D
Thankyou very kindly Missus Kaypee!
Okay. The top pic. The pumpkin on the right is my son's,he grew it himself and carved it....with a little help. The pumpkin on the right is Toot's. She grew it,starting when she was two and now she is the ripe old age of three! Her brother designed the face and OH carved it for her. The little one in the front is crying because it was raining yet again!!
Mine is the big one at the back. My attempt at an atlantic giant. I'm a big kid because I'm quite proud of my pumpkin this year. I drew it on freehand (whaddya mean you can tell :P) to my own design. I was even more chuffed when the older trick or treaters knew who it was...Harry Potter. Woo hoo! I'm soooooo sad ::) :D
Soz about the blurry pictures but my son's camera is utter rubbish...no wonder he never uses it ::) Ah well it'll just make him try harder..actually come to think of it...it was the night of my birthday so maybe the camera isn't at all bad and it was the somewhat worse for wear old bag using it. :o ;D
Help please!
I have a couple of pictures that I'd love to post here, but being a complete dunce about these things I have no idea how to do so.
I've got as far as getting two digital images on to my PC desktop here, but how do I attach them to the message? The 'insert picture' icon doesn't seem to do the trick, so what do I need to do?
Ok... deep breath; don't panic, Triffid...
This little fella is only about 4 inches in diameter...
so I was quite pleased with the amount of detail I was able to work in!
