Maybe this had been discussed on another thread but I cannot find it. Is it correct to say that tomatoes will redden up if put on a light windowsill. ALL my toms are still green and not likely to turn now. What a disappointment, the first time I have done them and not one ripened. What did I do wrong. ????
Don't know about that - we just put them in a box in the kitchen & they ripen progressively over weeks.
Sounds like you were late getting going. Happened to me last year and I just cut them off like vines and hung them on metal coat hangers put them on the curtain rail and they came red. But don't give up on them this year I am harvesting 8lb at a pick!!!!
What makes you think that they won't ripen on the plant?
I had the same problem last year Lazy Daisy. Think what I did wrong was sowing them too late, think it was towards the end of May when I sowed them. In the end I just picked them green and let them in a box like Tim said and the ripened on their own. You must check the box pretty regular just incase one goes off & spoils the rest.

Some varieties give green fuit.. they tend to get lighter and translucent when ripe... I'd leave them on the plant for a week or two yet unless you have a frost predicted..
:)
I managed to get a few yellow ripe toms, but the Shirly ones only went a slight yellow colouring.
I have taken them off the vine and in one week two were ripe. Just left them on the kitchen windowsill.
Now those two are eaten ;)
Will smaller green tomatoes ripen and stay the same size ?
Really small examples of big toms will shrivel, but naturally small toms will ripen..
;D
