After four years, I'd given up hope of these flowering, and now they've suddenly done it.

They certainly make up for the awful strap-like leaves flopping all over everything!

It's more closely related to the 'Amaryllis' (properly Hippeastrum) which is used as a houseplant. It's a South African genus; most of them aren't hardy. I also have some seeds of  'Jumbo Hybrids' from Deeds, which are just beginning to come up; it's going to be interesting to see what they turn into. I'm told they're monsters, with leaves up to six foot, and flower stems up to three feet high.
