Title: Privet cuttings?
Post by: Trixiebelle on September 01, 2006, 14:34:47
Yet another possibly 'ridiculous' question from Trixiebelle  ;D

Can you take cuttings from privet hedges? I want to grow a privet hedge in my back yard.

If it IS possible, when do I take cuttings and what do I do with them?

I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE  ;D

I've  cuttings from golden privet growing  as bushes & someone (Rosebud I think?) said that she'd seen one in a G.C. grown in a pot & shaped. I LIKE 'boring old privet'  ;)

Hi Trixiebelle  :)

Take bits of hedge trimming about a foot tall, pick off the lower leaves and stand them in water indoors. Plant out the bits that start to root.

I took a few bits in the summer, pulled off the bottom leaves and clipped out the tops, then shoved them into the ground, some seem completely fresh and some lost their leaves but may still root.

I like the pungent smell of privet and the bees like it too, Col
