Post by: Sodbuster on August 31, 2006, 17:25:32
Does anyone know where I can get some decent clipart of fruit and veg to use when making labels for jams and chutneys?  I ahve various clip art CD's but very few decent pics of what I want.

Hi sodbuster (http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e220/supersprout/smilies/wavey.gif)
Weeeell what about:

google search on 'images' for the fruit/veg you want?
not quite sure how you'd go about this - how about nursery rhyme/children's book illustrations (stylised/line drawings)? I'm thinking of Janet & Allan Ahlberg's 'Each Peach Pear Plum' - would love to have some of those on my labels ::)
PCStitch - embroidery software - has some good fruit/flower designs, and other embroidery software might be worth a look?
http://www.morriscookbooks.com/cc/labelsJam.pdf#search=%22jam%20labels%22 (if you like strawberries)
http://label-making-software-review.toptenreviews.com/visual-labels-review.html says it has a built-in library
or if it's too much trouble, some nice ready mades at http://www.cookability.biz/jam-making/a_22.htm ?

:)

Hello, the little labelling gadget that Lorna has told you all about is a Dymo Letratag machine, I use it for lots of bits and bobs around the house, garden and boat, including making labels for plants and seeds, as even when written in "permanent" pen, they have a tendancy to rub off. Also OK for use in freezer/fridge, and heat of greenhouse

see website for info:

Dymo do make other versions, so have attached link to their website, which is US but various suppliers in UK, Office World, WH Smiths, Woolies etc.

Thanks Kathi. I definitely have got to have one. Fed up with labelling plants (cos I can't remember some of the names) only to find the so called permanent ink has washed off.

Many thanks for all the suggestions which I will follow up .  We already have 8lbs plum jam , 10 of chutney,  10  pickled onions and lord knows how many beetroot to label.  I am sure it will all taste a lot better with decent labels!
