Title: Digi Cameras? IF, but only IF, mind...
Post by: Hyacinth on August 29, 2006, 20:18:32
I ditch my Kodak Box Brownie for something else, bit more but not lots more hi-tech? ::), something basic and simple to match me personality, like......what would you recommend, please?

(and, of anyone's got such a camera they want to sell, could you post via e-buygumbay?)

But, primarily, your thoughts?

Ta! Lishka

::) Fancy ditching your 'Brownie' ::) ;D Probs worth more than these new fangled things ;D OK I know you were joking :-\ :P and I can't help you wiv yor digi camera as mine is a bit ancient although I am very happy with it and you probs can't buy one now but it is ...a Kodak DX3600 Zoom Digi Camera.

I wish it would break so I could go buy a new fangley dingly digi box 20 million mega mega pixel thingamy gizmo's that I think you can get now for around a hundred quid. ;D

Just out of interest and still on topic and maybe useful to Lish and us lot...Has anyone bought one of these £100 ish 4/5/6 mega pixel camera's and if so are they any good? do they compete with the mega bucks jobbies that are around ???

Love to see some pictures on this thread of that type of camera just to see what they are made of. ;)

I currently have a Pentax Optio 60 but it is a bit poor in low light.  Hoping to upgrade to a digi SLR soon but waiting for Pentax to come out with something that is competative on the pixel front 9they are behind at the moment in both quality and price)  They do have 10MP coming out soon and I am waiting to see how much it costs.  I have lots of Pentax lenses and they will fit which will allow me to use them until I can upgrade them - that is why I am waiting.

Digi cameras are all very well, but you have to remember how slow they are for the little wires to warm up.
I know things are improving, but if you want to point & shoot - they aint much good.

I recently bought a sony H1, now superceded by the H2 and I'm really pleased with it (photos taken with it can be seen in my gallery (www.zebradigital.co.uk/gallery). It's an SLR camera so not pocket sized, Greenwizard uses a compact digi camera and her photos are brilliant. :)

I should have said that too - general picture quality is very good.  Just bit poor at focussing when light levels are low.  Agree on slow start up of digis - can be frustrating photographing a moving target when it takes the photo half a second after you press.  SLRs don't generally have that problem.

One thing in particular I found wanting in a few that I looked at was the screen at the back.I do wear specs, but even so I found it very difficult to see the subject being photographed because the screen was too small.
Got a Cannon Power Shot A520 now with 4.0 mega pixels. This was not much more than £100 a year ago. It's ok but more pixels would be an improvement.
Looking for an excuse to upgrade.!!!

Ive got a Cannon power shot 3.0 mega pixel, its very good, i use it for work mainly.

But to be honest i use my phone much more as i've got it on me most of the time, mines got a 2.0 mega pixel camera (not brilliant), but the Sony Erricson K800i has a 3.2 mega pixel camera and digtal zoom - you can get it free with most monthly contracts on offer.

I dont think you can get a phone with a camera + proper zoom lense yet, but i dont think it'll be too long before you can.

My brother got a sony k800i the weekend and the man in the shop said the camera was excellent quality for a mobile. He said that sony were gearing there mobiles to have excellent digi cams on them.

I would love a phone that had a top dog digi cam on as i have constantly got my phone on me.

the oh got me a kodak easyshare C340 system for chrissie which isn't bad.  you get a printer dock with it as well so you can print off your pics without having to use your main printer .... when it works !   ::)

i have 5.0 mega pixelly thingies .........woah !!!!!!  but the zoom doesn't zoom far enough for my liking and it does take a longish time to warm up, so point and click can take a few seconds longer than i hope for sometimes.  i don't think i've got a micro closeup setting though which would be handy.  i'll have to RTFM.   :P

just found it on google for £139, the whole kit.

but i'd go with whatever greenwizard has got!  she takes GREAT pics.

;D
