get the hose out on the caterpillars !  i coudn't be bothered waiting for mine so harvested the whole d**n lot at the weekend.  They didn't seem to be getting any bigger and i was losing more and more leaves, due to mass caterpillar destruction.

i ended up getting about two meals out of it and that was my lot.

:'(

Well when I got back from holiday two cabbages that were alot bigger than yours had been eaten all down one side. I decided to pull them all up and underneath were 3 fat slugs all sleeping after their heavy breakfast, well I send them away in there dreams, and had the the cabbage for dinner this evening.

Apparantly - if you leave a cabbage or cauliflower in a bowl of slightly salty water overnight, it will draw all the catterpillers out - although leaving all their sh*t behind of course.

slugs got all my caulis - and even though I had enviromesh over my cabbages there was a cabbage white butterfly inside the net! (must have crawled in there as a caterpillar when I wasn't looking)

slugs have moved into the tomatos and are munching their way through the crop - buggers, need to decide a plan of attack

I'm sorry to have to inform you 'dirtyfingernails' but butterflies smell the brassicas and squeeze themselves in between the tiny mesh squares of the protective netting.   I know it sounds unbelievable but we have watched them.

;D Thanks for the kind words Guys ;) I can't throw any light on why the caulies come good other than what I said in Emma's thread on Caulies, just to add to the confusion, the caulies above in the picture were grown under netting but there was a yellowy one in there and the caulies I have growing in the opposite bed are left uncovered and appear to be coming on fine, other than being attacked by the usual pests, pictures to follow ;D
