Hi Magpie, I've had a look at the site you've recommended to Tim.   It's good ain't it !!!   I've added it to my Links Bar, and I'll explore it later.   Many thanks for that.

Hi Colin

Yes ! Very good site. I just love little beasties!!  Altho' not too happy when they nibble my painstakingly nurtured plants.  ::)
But, hey, everything on this earth is entitled to be fed and watered!! ( if sometimes only for a short while!  ;)  ;D )

Eeeeeeugh!

A Google images search for "potato cyst nematode" throws up about 40 piccies.  And some interesting links.

The book - they are "colourless, slender and microscopic, adults being no more than 1mm long . . . and are usually invisible to the naked eye" ------ just as well, wouldn't want to meet these little sods face-to-face!!!

All best - Gavin

Thanks for all that - I reckon it's wireworm that this person has found!!

But it's difficult to relate the pic of a long-looking golden 'eel'worm to the 1mm size quoted. = Tim
