WOW!!!
THAT is impressive!
If you had to give a new sunflower grower one tip, what would it be?
I think I'm inspired to try to grow sunflowers next year. Not to be tall an amazing like yours, but it could be fun.
Direct sow your seed, you need to do this because sunflowers have a long tap root and if this root is restricted the eventual height will also be.
When do you plant? I assume bottle cloches might be the way to go.
Way to go! You beat my best sunflower this year. Your sunflower is the best one I've seen this year.
I have some corn that looks like it might break 18 ft. No tassel yet! I'll get something taller, even if it's not a sunflower. ;D

If anyone didn't see my tallest sunflower on the other thread.

We've managed 14' 8" without direct sowing, in those black tubs florists use, and own giant seed. If you are starting try one of the Russian giant packets, easy to get hold of and cheap, save your own seed each year from your best plants.... I find slugs are too enthusiastic about eating sunflower seedlings! Oh and don't grow cutting varieties anywhere near them
:-[....
Wow amazing corn I've never seen corn like that.
This is now the tallest of the year so far. Unless anyone knows of a taller one?

The type of corn I grow is called Jala - sometimes I hear it called Jala Valley Landrace Maize. It's from teh Jala Valley of Mexico. I've seen them over 20 ft. tall.
I've seen Cuzco giant corn at Coventry (HDRA) but it never set seed as the season stopped before it did!!!
;D
I tried growing Cuzco giant this year, I was unable to produce and viable ears. I had only one ear, and it didn't extend silk for me. The stalks seemed very brittle. Most of my plants snapped during the lightest winds. I'm going to try again next year. I heard that it has a very long growing period. I tried growing them under growing tents to get an early start. I'm not doing that next year. I'm just waiting until it warms up. They don't get very tall either. Maybe 7 ft. at the max.
