Berberis - Camelia - Magnolia stellata - Mahonia - Viburnum
I like that Magnolia is it an easy one to grow?
How does it react to the cold?
The Magnolia I bought about 10 years ago Gardener, so you can tell it is quite a slow growing shrub. It is fully hardy I have found, but usually I find that (like all the other magnolias) if we get a late frost it ruins the flowers. I think you can probably train them to standard size also as I saw one recently that was like a small tree. Looked absolutely wonderful. Having said all this I suppose it really depends on which part of the country you live in - if you can grow the other types of magnolia up north I presume that this one will survive the cold.
If I'm right, that is Magnolia Stellata and needs to be sheltered from North and East winds. I prefer it to the blousier Magnolia Grandiflora. Don't know any more than that cause never grown one, they have such a short flowering period but always enjoy seeing them in other peeps gardens. However, if you have loads of shrubs, must be lovely addition.
:D
My stellata is in quite an open space Kate so is not particularly sheltered from the strong cold winds. Having said that I do live in the south so maybe Gardener would not be so lucky with it where he lives.
Fab pics Patricia. I adore the Magnolia, and never grown one. Seeing that picture, I am sooooooo tempted! Fab colours.
