Quick question please. Which s/market sells them?
Thanks.
I've been looking for the same thing for about 2 weeks now. I've found several websites (links below) but as for supermarkets - I don't think they sell them. I've been told today that a local hardware shop in my area sells them but unfortunately when I called today they were closed >:(. Will have to go tomorrow. If not, I'll have to try online.

Linda.
Lakeland are fine for those. But I find it incredible that you have to pay £2 for a rubber ring??
Thank you Linda - looks like I'll have to trawl my little local shops too - good hunting to both of us. Thanks for the links, tho - a fallback if we're unsuccessful?

Lakeland's are 10-pax? ::)
I've always had difficulty finding discs large enough for kilner-type preserving jars. They only seem to supply them to fit jam jars, not wider-necked ones. They call them 1lb and 2lb size, but this bears no relation to the width of the jar.
I eventually found some which are meant for separating home-made burgers, but they weren't in the preserving section of the shop.
Hi all,
I buy rolls of waxed paper from sainsburys and cut rings to fit whatever jars I`m using.
(I draw round the lid with a pencil first)

As for jam jars themselves, I've found more than a couple at charity shops, and often brand new. People get the idea they'll make jam and never do...
got mine from a kitchen ware stall in the indoor market.

200 * 1lb wax discs = £1.50 and a bit o postage for an example
The above should take you to the site, An excellent place for all your preserving jars etc and i think at a very competative price
I boiught my Jam jars from here and im sure it was one of the girls on here that gave me the address
Hope it helps
Carl
Not a supermarket but if you have a John Lewis near you they do lots of bits.
Many thanks all. The 86yr old lady who gives me a bottle of her home brewed wine every week gave me a pack of discs she had in her cupboard....they were priced !/6d ::)
I'll check John Lewis next time I'm around there, or otherwise the ascott link, so one way or another I'm sorted....except for a recipe for blackcurrant jam, anyone?
Love 1/6d ! :D

Well according to the BBC they're high in pectin, so it should just be equal fruit and sugar?

Weigh blackcurrants. Put in pan, and just cover with water. Bring to boil, then simmer until completely soft (usually takes about 20mins to half hour at least)
Add sugar to the same weight as the blackcurrants. Stir to dissolve, then bring back up to boil, bring to 103/104 degrees C. That's it really, it sets pretty easily, but is important to cook the blackcurrants thoroughly before adding the sugar, or you get little black bullets ;D
Thanks Jenny. I'd forgotten how simple the reipe is - haven't made jam for over a quarter of a century ;D
