Title: Garden Blogs
Post by: mrsnesbitt on August 21, 2006, 10:13:59
Who keeps a blog?
I would love to see other people's, especially those like myself who are new to it all.

I try to keep my blog updated but would welcome comments & advice.

Several of us!

I've got a list of some here, though given the large numbers of new ones, I've got a bit behind on my links!

I've clocked yours now  ;)

Hi mrsnesbitt, I have a blog site that I update on a weekly basis of my two allotments here in the West Midlands.

http://www.myallotments.blogspot.com

If it is ok I will add a link to your site and also to Emma Jane's site, Robert_ Brenchley's site and Moonbells site if none of you mind, thanks Steve.

I have just had a thought about your blogs. Wouldnt it be a nice idea to get all the web addreses for them together in one place on A4All so that one can browse through them at leisure. Maybe a 'Sticky Topic' would be the way to do it.

Update.

I hope noone minds but i have started a list of blog addys, taken from peoples signatures. I am assuming since you have put them in your sig that you want them seen and used. Once I have a few more i can post them up on A4A;; as a seperate topic if you have no objections to this

If anyone want to see the list i have before I publish it then please PM me.

Can i also ask others with garden or allotment blogs and do not have them in their signature (for whatever reason)  to post them in this topic (if they are happy to do so), so that i can add them to the list.

I know this sounds a bit cheeky but as i said above, i think it would be a nice idea to have all the blogs together in one place. Please remember noone is forcing you to do this, completely your choice to join in or not

Feel free to reply with your own thoughts on this.

PS If this is sucessfull maybe we could do the same withphotos of our gardens or allotments.

Post away; if it's on the site then it's already public.

It is very quick and easy to see all the addy's together.

Pull up the members list.

Click the 4th column header, which says 'Website'

This will then list all of the members with websites (including blogs) at the top of the list. Currently there are 40 pages of these - approaching 200 ...

Hope this is clear and useful  :)

Taht is all well and good but not all the websites people include there are not all blogs and some are even A4All itself - which isnt helpful!  I had hoped not to have to trawl through that list.

Thanks curry and mikeB, found it now!

Garden Cadet - I also think it would be nice to have a list of blogs, maybe you could start a sticky (if possible?) and people who want to can stick thier blogs on and those who don't want to don't have to!  Also, that way only the ones that people are updating regularly/recently will be posted, cos I noticed that a few of the ones that I looked at on the members list were not recent.

Thanks for your support. I dont think ordinary members can make a topic a 'sticky' topic only Dan can do that, as I understand it.

I did hve a quick look at the members list and the web addresses, and yes many do seem to be out of date and you cant tell without clicking on them what they are! Some are websites, some are blogs and some jut take you back to the A4All home page.

Update: Just been having a look through the member list and have seleced some of the more relevant blogs/webpages next to members on the first page of the list at least. I have copied them into a word document ready to post.

Only another 2 and a half pages (150 names) of members with websites to go!!!!

To leonnie and sthmlgreen, have now added you links to the list, although I think I now have sthlmgreen twice. You see I have started compiling this list in 2 seperate computers, desktop and laptop. This has lead to some confusion as to which ones i have and have not got already. Never mind it will sort itself out when i merge the two lists and get it posted.

What i might do is get together what i have got and post it up, then add to it later, then perhaps if you see yours isnt there you could add it yourself or let me know about it?

Know the feeling multiveg. I started one back in the spring, got so far and kept meaning to go back and update it but never seemed to find the time. Too busy i guess - with stuff that could have gone into the blog!!!

Impressed Richard.  Time consuming.  Would be great if Dan could keep it sticky, along with our pictures thread that after the hackers, vanished back about a dozen pages.

Any tips for restarting an old blog anyone?

Just pick up where you left off Richard.  You must have loads of news and photos of your garden, so maybe do a couple of season by season sections....how things were in Spring, summer and as we head into autumn.  I will keep an eye on it for updates!  :D

Okaaaay, so no pressure then EJ ;-). I love writing about gardening almost as much as doing it, but i do need 'space' and time to concentrate on it. I may have had the time but not 'space' to concentrate (or the motivation either but thats another story). Whilst id love to sit down and sort it out therr are always too many distractions - like A4All. I could be doing the blog now (weather's rubbish outside) but A4All lured me away again! its soooo adictive!
