Title: Raspberries
Post by: cherry on August 20, 2006, 22:29:08
I've just got round to cutting out the fruited canes - the brown ones!    I noticed that there were new canes  (green ones)  that had also fruited this year.
Is this usual    OR   is it the weather this year?
Should  I cut them out too?    They are not autumn fruiting variety.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Hi Cherry,

Yep- this is perfectly normal, just leave the green canes. The green canes are where your fruit will come from next year, so the theory behind pruning summer-raspberries is to remove the brown canes that fruited this year and tie-in the new green shoots.

Best wishes and good luck!

Thanks for that Truffles.    I will go ahead now and tie in all the new canes.

Cheers.
