Well, I finally decided that as my first year of growing in pots has gone pretty well I should apply for an allotment plot - I rang the secretary and apparently there is a waiting list of only a couple of months so I asked for a form and today it has been sent back to them! Yippee! One step closer to an allotment to feed my new obsession even further! ;D

Go for it Sally you should never look back... I'm on my fifth plot, although some are less than 300sq yards... Veg, veg and more veg... but also apples pears, damsons, fig, vine, quince mulberry... the list is almost endless... I want a Medlar but am facing opposition from OH...

I'm sure you'll love it. I've already got mine but am waiting for it to be laid out for me. It's not stopping me, at the moment I'm going thro' all the seed catalogues planning for next year lovely. I may not have every thing I want at the lottie' but I can plan a head for years in my mind.

My local council (Bedford) says I can't have anything that doesn't die back within 12 months from planting. How do you get away with having fruit trees? I would love to be able to grow grape vines on one of my plots (although I think the Bedford clay may cause some water-logging problems :-\).

Just got our plot, and in our tenancy agreement it says the same. However, I have noticed that lots of the plots have perenial plants, (including the site manager!). So I'd suggest checking out what other plot holders grow. People on ours have apple, pear, plum and cherry trees, strawberries, rhubarb etc. If other people have established fruiting stuff you should be ok.
Let sleeping dogs lie on that one. Allotments have a lot of silly rules that aren't enforced. I bet everyone else grows perennials, even though it's technically banned on a great many sites. If other people have fruit trees, say nothing and go ahead.
