Title: Looking
Post by: rosebud on August 16, 2006, 16:16:38
For Cardoon seeds please has anyone got a flower head to spare?
EJ, sent me one last year but the young woman who helps me out decided it was a dead flower head and put it in the bin, without asking me if i wanted it .

Mary, I can send you another entire head as I have lots in bloom at the moment.  If you are okay to wait until they are dry, they are all yours!  ;D

Yes Robert - if you can wait a few weeks for them to get nicely dry, I will cut them down and happily send you one.  ;D

As you can see, they get mighty tall!  ;D  I am hoping to grow some fresh ones just for the garden as they look amazing and the bees LOVE them!

I've got no problem waiting since I won't be planting yet anyway. Let me know when they're ready, thanks.

Can you do anything with them or are they just a flower? Could I have some seeds if you got any left please. Bees we need these pollenation machines down at our lot. Do you sow them every year??

It's a perennial, though it's apparently frost-sensitive. It can be used as a vegetable if you blanch it by wrapping something round the stems, but I want to try it as an ornamental.

OKay, I have peeled back the layers and have seeds.  What a palava!  ;D  Would you prefer sorted seeds, or entire heads?  Sorted seeds is about 25 or so seeds, entire heads could be about 100 seeds I suppose.

Rosy - pm me your addy and I can send you some.
Shirlton, I will stick a packet of seeds in with your cheque if that is okay.

I plan (famous last words) to go to the postoffice around 2pm so if I haven't heard before then, I will just stick in a packet of the sorted seeds for you all.

Cheers

Sorted seeds would be fine if you've done them already, or you could save yourself the trouble and put a flower head, or part of one, in the post and I'll sort them.
