Does anyone use insecticidal soap?
What I would like to know is if anyone would recommend its use or, perhaps, has a better (and cheaper) alternative.
I have had a serious infestation of spider-mite this year throughout the entire gardens, both front and back - approximately a quarter of an acre of dead and dying plants
I looked at the information regarding their predators but realise that they are more suited to spider mite in the greenhouse than trying to treat all the plants in the garden.
I read that insecticidal soap gets rid of the blighters and I think it would be a better treatment as it is not reliant on keeping it at a warm temperature (as is the case with the natural predators). The plus point for me, also, is that you can direct a spray at them and know that you have made contact.
I would be grateful for any input on this topic.
It's quite good for aphid but I doubt that it would cope with RSM. Try Eradicoat - Defender's new stuff? They list RSM in its targets.
Just found this.
Spider mites
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most commonly Red spider mites and a greenhouse pest that attacks the foliage of plants causing discoloration of the leaves. Best kept at bay by keeping your greenhouse well ventilated otherwise an insecticidal soap is effective.
Oh, & the Organic Catalogue agrees!!
Thanks for the information, Tim.
I looked up 'Eradicoat' (enough to make 20 litres is £29.95) and Insecticidal Soap ( enough to make 50 litres is £15.45).
So, Tim, as they both seem to do the same job I think, on price alone, it will have to be the Insecticidal Soap.
Thanks again.
