.....well, not really, but am I ever going to be able to clear all of the couch grass in my new patch?! My back is aching. my legs are sore, and I have worked muscles that I didn't know I had....ahem...ooeer...heheheh... The patch is now about two thirds clear, but the grass is getting thicker and thicker. Apparently, according to Ron, this patch hasn't been properly cultivated for 15 years that he can remember! I dug a spud trench down the far end this morning as I have tooo many spuds for my big plot, and the plan is, next few lawn cuts, keep the cuttings and then, once the kids go back to school after the eater hols, get the rest of my pots in. Hopefully, by the time I want to plant my huge selection of squashes and sweetcorn, so about May time, the plot will be clear and dug.
On my main plot, I sowed just a pinch of lambs lettuce, corn salad, chinese bouquet (no idea - a freebie packet in a mix given to me) and some perpetual spinach. Probably only about a quarter row of each, and they are tucked up nicely with some fleece. It is going to be tough for me to get up there whilst the kids are off school, it will be short and sweet visits, so I thought I would give a few things a go.
And the highlight of my morning..... I pulled 2, yes 2 lovely long, white leeks for our tea! 12 still to go. Happy days! ;D
Anyone else been down on the plot or out in their gardens today? The sun is in and out in Essex, but it is mild so you know where I will be spending this afternoon...! :)
Down the pub perhaps? ;D
ooh - jealous! It's glorious here now, after a yucky start. But then I did spend the whole of yesterday outside (more of it riding, than in the garden - is that sacriligous?)
I have so much to do. Only managed to sow some broad beans (I know, I'm a bit late!), prune the buddleia (I only meant to give it a little hair but, but now it's virtually a stump - I get carried away with the secaturs!) and do a spot of hand weeding (how quickly do these things grow? I have love-in-the-mist self seeded all over the place - literally like lawn - i pull up bits when I feel like it!)
I found some worrying grass that I'm hoping isn't couch grass - it has very thick white roots and seems to be spreading quite rapidly, although it did pull up quite easily.
This weekend we WILL start digging the pond. It's got to be done soon or the frogs will get frustrated! :-*
I'm stuck at work and waiting for the weekend, so I can plant out my sweet peas, and with any luck some strawberries (plant purchase pending).
Oh well, I will just have to sit and watch my lovely tomatoes and peppers growing when I get home. The tomatoes have grown loads since I potted them on, perhaps 5 inches tall now. Very happy I am ;D
You still got Leeks EJ lucky old you.Mine are all finished everything waiting for the new season .Had some home grown Rhubarb at theweekend though.Cant beat it out of the garden into the pan.No taste like it.
Ooh, I'm so jealous of you all being able to go during the day! I'm looking forward to the long Easter weekend - no children to distract me and I might sneak in an extra day off if things are looking slow at work (college) so most people are off anyway!

Really miserable here today. Went to the allotment but too wet to dig. Took away some rubbish to the tip.
Have 2 rhubarb plants and had built a sort of mesh erection over one and covered with black membrane to see if it would sort of force that one - checked today and it is a BIT bigger.
Really looking forward to getting the tatties in the ground and the onions on the go.
Just relaxing, feet up after pricking a few delicates out: Mrs Kew shouted, 'There's a bird in the greenhouse.' I shot out into the garden, leopard stalk on the gravel to the greenhouse door, slowly opened it right up, crept in on hands and knees so I didn't make the thing flap all over the place, slowly raising my head to the different levels where all my delicates were sitting, got to the bottom of the greenhouse, shuffled round on all fours and checked the other side, OW! Right knee bleeding, finger ends sore as hell, got back to the door, looked up at the house window, wife shouted out, 'April Fool...!'
Dutch Neighbours looking at me through their windows. Red faced Ken pretends to have found something he lost in the gravel.
Mrs Kew is sleeping alone tonight!
Excellent description of your stalking technique KK! But hope that wasn't the result Mrs K had in mind ::)
Wonder if the neighbours took piccies - would be worth seeing I'll bet!! :P
