Title: kiwi advice please
Post by: freesia on August 15, 2006, 14:52:54
I have three kiwi plants (assai - self fertile) growing up supports in large pots.  Large buds appeared on them quite early in the year, but so far the fruits have only reached seedless grape size.  Am I just being impatient, or should they be growing quicker than that.  I have started giving one of them multi-purpose liquid feed to see if that will help, but it's probably too early to tell yet.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I think you might have Issai, which I understand are a small kiwi anyway - about the size of a large gooseberry. Not like the large ones we see in the shops.
If so, they will ripen but will always bear small fruit.  They probably wont be ripe yet, but when they are, they come off easily, like ripe plums do.

Thanks jennym for the info.  I didn't realise they would be so small, but at least it looks now that I may get some ready for eating before the frosts.
