Title: Getting Kids to Eat There Greens :D
Post by: the_snail on August 13, 2006, 04:53:21
Make them grow them first!

I am all for children growing vegetables like sprouts and cabages (which I love  ;D) to see how they are grown and how to grow them. Most children now'a'days think that sprouts come out of the freezer and some dont know what a blinkin sprout is.

I am not only talking about veges but salads also like lettuce and raddish so simple any person can grow them. I started of with raddish when I was 4 years old and also lettuce. The best bit was pulling them up and eating them. Unwashed  :o I am still here though  ;D Just I think  ;)

So people on this forum and visitors alike that read this post please get ya kids growing veg. You do not need a big garden I had a 5 foot by 5 foot square bit of soil and I was happy as pigs in muck when I was very young! I put everything that was edible and also flower seeds on there and it was great! The good old days. When life way just another day of adventures and no care in the world.

If you have no garden why not try growing veg in pots it is just as good and as much fun. Just needs a little more water. Good way of making use of your washing water from after washing the dinner plates. Just put a little less deturgent in the water.

Ok rant over!  ;D

Growing beans and squash from seed got me going - I still fill up at the sight of a tiny fist patting a broadie into the soil :P

That's one of the reasons that I took on a lottie in the first place.  My daughter is a bit too young to grow her own yet but she is still learning where they come from etc.  She's already developed a dislike for veggies so I'm hoping that this will help

Ours were involved with the Lotties from the word go... the eldest a 16 yr old intellectual has gone off the dirty hands bit now but I'm sure he'll come back and the 13 yr old is happy to help out but doesn't want his own space.. they eat virtually anything.. the youngster doesn't like Parsnips and both went off Asparagus for a while... but sadly like it again this year so less for me!!!!

The little folk in my family get easy to grow seeds for Christmas and birthdays from good old Auntie M. There are some great packs of stuff to be had for kids from Garden Centers etc.
