Title: id my squash please
Post by: gavin. on August 12, 2006, 19:09:13
can anyone tell me anything about this squash. i think it was part of the 'summer mystery mix' from the real seed co. When should I pick it and how should I cook it? I have quite a few.

looks like a patty pan to me. I've got some white ones like that, also from real seed co. Acc to their site, you pick them when they're about 2-3" accross & cook like you do courgettes.
I've had a couple of pickings from 1 plant with another on a bit behind but showing promise!!  ::)
nice roasted!!

Looks like patty pan to me too, you can let them get bigger and stuff them like a marrow too, I grew them last year and was very pleased. Also the tiny baby ones that fall off beacuse they are not fertalised are great cooked whole.

It must be 'Pattison Blanc' Patty Pan. See this page http://www.realseeds.co.uk/courgettes.html

I love patties, think they are little flying saucers!  Pick them when very small and roast whole - delicious!  Bigger to huge, excellent stuffed, or sliced or used how any courgette would be used.  We weren't crazy on veg spag and are not bothering again.  Like you Svea, the winter pumpkins and squash suit us more.

The large white and green patty pans keep really well.  I've still got some from last year and they haven't rotted.  As well as being good to eat they make lovely decorations.

Ooops, sorry. It's not 'Pattison Blanc'.

The Real Seed Catalogue says it's a mixture of various interesting summer squash (courgettes, patty-pan & straightneck) from their trials and breeding programmes.
