A friend of mine has asked if anyone can help her identify these two plants.
I think this may be a Rhus. It's over 6' tall.

I have no idea what this is!! The flower looks similar to a magnolia but the leaves look wrong.

The seed head on the second one looks similar to a peony. The first one does look like a rhus.
Thanks for you reply Janet. I think you may be right about it being a peony!!! :D
Ok
The top one is a Rhus Typhina or (Stags horn Sumach) You where correct.
The bottom on is a ermmmmm
Hope that helps.
PS. Get back to you on the bottom one. Looks like a buddleja leaf and stem. But its not a Buddleja.
The_Snail
Is the bottom one a tea plant, camellia sinesensis. It looks very similar to one I saw last year. Make a brew and smell it, drink it if you dare.
It is a rhus and I will try and get a photo in a day or so showing how they can spread across the garden. We have some at the edge of the lawn and the suckers are coming up as far as 20 - 25 feet away.

If it si indeed a Sumach (sp?), then watch out for suckers. Where i lived as a child, a neighbour had one of these and it suckered every where,. Nice plant otherwise, good flowers and autumn colour, but a bit invasive though
