Can you safely compost Brier?
I know it is poisonous to animals, but if you compost it are these broken down.
I have a plot beside a field of them and it,s a great temptation to chop them down .
Not sure what you mean? Brambles or Briar Rose stems? Most things can be composted... given the propensity of Brambles to root at the tips in contct with the soil leave them cut for a couple of days to dry out first... the poisons in plants are all biodegradable even the cyanides in apple pips!
;D
I sometimes compost the green stems, but the old woody ones go on the bonfire.
Hi greensleeves,
I wouldn`t compost brambles or rose or anything with thorns as the sharp bits survive in the compost and get into your hands later.
I stack my prunings along my boundary fences under my blackberry bushes where they decompose slowly, provide habitat for creatures and hold back weed growth.
