The powers that be are nothing if not humourous...
The weeds are mocking me! I spent half an hour last week weeding round the onions and pulled out a significant number of dandelion seedlings whose roots went UNDER the onions >:(
To my slight surprise, the courgette plants are doing fantastically. They have so far produced a number of flowers of both sexes, and some fruits were starting to fill out. ;D Last night I went to check on them and three of the most advanced have been eaten by invertibrates! ??? (Well, two were 60% eaten, the third and previously largest was munched right down to the stem)
And I know that there are literally hundreds of small toads living under the carpet which covers the courgette/squash bed 8) But of course if there are slugs which are getting past them, then they must be the size of ducks! :o
The netting has, so far, protected my brassicas, yet the gooseberry bush is now completely naked, but for half a leaf remaining at the very top. :P
And last night I inadvertantly made a very successful french style loaf in the breadmaker :-\
On balance I'm not at all unhappy - just rather perplexed.
So have decided that I shall laugh with 'em ;D ;D ;D
Ho-hum.
Pete
Pete What a sense of humour :) Sorry but found myself giggling as I read your post ;D
Lorna
Pete, if you can't smile, then you would just cry! Mother Nature likes to play hard to get, however, if she has created slugs the size of ducks, I would like to suggest you set up a fancy cafe on site and saute them off with a little garlic.....they can't be that different to escargot...can they...... :-X
;D ;D ;D ;D
As much as I consider myself adventurous when it comes to culinary matters, I think I will give that a miss !!!
