Just had to share this picture with you. It's my first flower on a cactus I've had about 5 or 6 years now. Unfortunately it only lasted a day but I can see that there are more buds so I'll have some more later.

Most cacti are actually quite simple to flower. Keep them cool and dry in the winter, then in summer give them plenty of light, though not enough to make them all turn purple, and loads of water. As long as the compost is well-drained, you can pour on as much water as you like, as long as they're growing actively.
Wow! Always amazed at cacti flowers as so often they are huge compared to their spiky bits!
