'Overcoming adversity, we attain to the stars'
Well that certainly isnt struggling to the stars ...
Prefer "per aspera" myself!! ;D ;D 8)
.......There's a whole world at your feet.......
That was my old school motto, ad astra per aspera, or to the stars through difficulties. Lettuce just doesn't cooperate this time of year! maybe it should be ad vegetabilis per aspera!
Was just about to do a 'clever Dick' thing, suggesting that aspera related to aspirare, to aspire. Fortunately, checked it out to find this; Definition of: per aspera ad astra - Through rough ways to the stars; through suffering to renown.
So then looked up the origin of our own (RAF) motto (in the title) , which I have not seen before.

Whereas I thought you were showing an entertaining link to the motto, by using it to relate to your gardening. I am surprised, as I thought all services knew their relevant mottos. I only know that of the REME - Arte et Marte - by skill and by fighting. Ah well, still an enjoyable thread !!!
Years since I did latin, but when I get down on my plot, all I know is tempis fugit (sorry if I can't even remember how to spell it), and it certainly is terra firma with the lack of rain!! I also know the motto of the Royal Artillery, but as it contains a word which in latin means 'honour', but we would consider not polite conversation, I don't think it would approprate to quote it here!
Noted !
Because "The Team Works" (Royal Navy), "Be the best" (Army) & "Rise above the rest" (RAF)"
Go veggies go!
Yes, Curry - but I didn't know the origin.
Thought the title very appropriate to the photo - however un-entertaining?
Always good to employ my very rusty latin, Tim! ;D
I didn`t get where I am today without suffering two years of latin-even if Tim went to `that other school` ;D All I know is that when 24 chicory `Cornet D`Anjou` bolted my language tended towards Anglo Saxon ;)
