I want to remove the grass section in the above image but have my compost bin near.
Is it ok for this to be located so close and also i have notice there are a lot of ant activity.
Shall this be ok to extend the growing area ? ???
yeeha! your off and running, i knew you'd get the bug. get rid of the grass, grow more fruit/veg, then run out of space again and get yourself an allotment. x
I'd knock the fence down as well and just keep on going ;D
how the replies made me laugh - very good! ;D ;D Sorry, Chris, can't help you with your query. Are you on a waiting list for an allotment?
Hehehe yeh i have the bug!
Nope no alotment for me, just the garden ;)
But any adivce would be great ;)
with such limited space id go for it and whilst at it id dig in the compost and use the bin for growing potatoes in !
lawns are SO overrated. :P
Some good advice here chris:

you could lay down newspaper, spread the compost over the lawn and start planting straight away! ;D
But if that's a Mimosa in the corner you should hang on to it - lovely plants.
Ok thats it done, whew that was tough going, took me 2 hours and my back hurts now......worth it tho. ;)
There were loads of tree roots n the soil so took longer than i thought.
I'll post some new pics tomorrow once its daytime again.
Now what to plant ;)
hee hee, so easily led ! ;) :P
You could always plant a marrow, gourgette or melon etc.. near the compost bin - they really like that ;D
Here are some pics, just taken of the new section of land.

well done chris. I wish my hubby can help me dig the grass up ;D
blimey you don't hang about do you Chris? :o well done that digger!
Can't wait for Phase III ;)
not a good idea for a phase 3 ;)
If my fater in law had it his way the whole garden would be potatoes, and the garden is very large! ;)
your F-I-L sounds like a very sensible man.
;D
anybody want to bet he digs up more lawn next march/april?
HE'S GOT THE BUG......(no blade of grass is safe)
sell your lawnmower and buy LOADS of seeds for next year......or a greenhouse. ;D x well done
You'll soon be wanting an allotment.
Great little plot you have there! I see you are using the Bed system which is very economical on space. Bed system states that you can get more from a small area planting closer together. It has its advantages as you do not need to weed so much as the crops are closer together. No need to mulch as the leaves shade the soil fron the sun so you have more moisture retension and also you get alot more from a smaller area. Good luck and its looking great!!
