Found this when I dug up some carrots for lunch this morning.
It is actually a bit paler than the photo shows, almost as pale as a parsnip.
Could it be some kind of throw back? I know carrots were not originally not orange at all. It was the only one like it of those I dug up and the foliage was no different to a normal carrot.
I guess would taste the same but just could not bring myself to cook it!
Variety is Autumn King by the way, which I have grown before but never seen one quite as pale as this.
one of my early nantes was cream rather than orange. just the one !
tasted the same though.
;D
My guess would be that it's come from a stray seed of another variety.
Unusual to get stray seed in modern packets... now stock and animal feed carrots they can come in all colours... well almost, never seen a blue one!
???
I had several cream ones in my Early Nantes 2. Thought I had read somewhere that it was normal? But then I'd never had success with carrots before so was delighted to get anything!
you and me both periwinkle ! i'm just so amazed by whatever i manage to grow, that i don't care much what shape, colour, size it is.
perhaps next year, i'll start worrying about the odd white carrot !
;D
